Local residents graduate, receive honors for fall semester
Valdosta State University has announced the members of its graduating class of fall 2023. Nearly 900 students completed their degree requirements at VSU during the semester and graduated during the university’s 236th commencement weekend.
Among those who graduated are Sonny Ballard of Cedartown, Walker Hayes of Rockmart and Julie Lackey of Cedartown.
GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY
Laila Jones-Padilla of Rockmart was named to the fall 2023 President’s List at Georgia State University.
To be eligible for the President’s List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 4.0 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester.
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester.
Those on the Dean’s List include Elias Vail-Lopez of Cedartown, Matthew Fachisthers of Cedartown, Mariah Banks of Rockmart and Colin Hynek of Rockmart.
UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA
Rockmart’s Joshua Wilder was named to The University of Alabama President’s List for fall semester 2023.
Students enrolled during fall semester 2023 at The University of Alabama with an academic record of 4.0 were named to the president’s list.
The UA dean’s and president’s lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.
MISSISSIPPI STATE
Wayne Cupp, of Cedartown, is among 4,503 students named to the Mississippi State University fall 2023 President’s List.
Students on the President’s List achieved a 3.80 or better GPA, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.
UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI
Elson Ball, of Cedartown, was named to the University of Mississippi’s fall 2023 honor roll lists.
Ball, majoring in Southern Studies, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.50-3.74.
In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.
GADSDEN STATE
Several Gadsden State Community College student-athletes and five athletic teams were honored by being named to the Alabama Community College Conference Fall 2023 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for achieving a 3.0 GPA or higher in at least 12 hours of courses.
Among the Gadsden State athletes to be named to this honor are men’s tennis team members Samuel Arnold and Kamron Palacios, both of Cedartown.
