Dobrzynski among nation’s best in women’s lacrosse

The standout had another big week for the team. In a 15-12 conference victory over Quinnipiac on April 17 in Hamden, Conn., she had two goals and six assists for eight points. In an 11-8 loss to Fairfield last Saturday in Loudonvill­e, she had a goal and four assists, the Stags ranked 23rd and capturing the regular season MAAC title with a 9-0 record to earn the No. 1 seed in the tourney.

Ellie Lawler (Wakefield) The graduate student competed in the 5,000-meter invitation­al race for the Syracuse (N.Y.) women’s track team at the Virginia Challenge last weekend in Charlottes­ville. The South Kingstown High graduate finished sixth out of 32 entrants with a personal record time of 16:01.60. Junior Olivia Joly (North

Kingstown High) ran in the regular 5,000-meter run for the Orange and finished fifth out of 38 runners with a time of 16:44.42.

Derek Shea (West Kingstown)

A graduate student, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound righthande­r is a key performer out of the bullpen for the 15-18 Oneonta (N.Y.) baseball team. The Charigo Regional graduate has pitched in 15 games in relief and has a 1-1 record with two saves. He has a 4.78 earned run average and a 1.61 WHIP. In 26.1 innings, he has given up 30 hits and 15 runs, 14 earned with 13 walks and 16 strikeouts. A transfer from Wells College, Shea pitched in 16 games in relief last season and was 3-0 with two saves.

Virsavia Goretoy (W. Warwick)

The senior finished second in the long jump to help the Rhode Island women’s track team finish third at the Holy Cross Invitation­al last Saturday in Worcester, Mass. The West Warwick High graduate had a leap of 18 feet, 6 ½ inches. She also ran legs on the 4x400 relay which finished second in 3:53.07 and the 4x100 relay which finished fourth in 48.96. Graduate student Erynn Field (North Kingstown High) also helped the Rams by finishing second in the hammer throw with a heave of 164 feet, 11 inches.

Ellie Edwards (South Kingstown)

The sophomore midfielder has played in all 14 games with seven starts for the Sacred Heart (Conn.) women’s lacrosse team, the 9-5 Pioneers sharing the Northeast

Conference regular season title with Long Island, both teams finishing 8-1. Sacred Heart is the top-seed in the NEC tournament. The Prout School graduate has four goals and two assists for six points along with 18 ground balls, six caused turnovers and four draw controls. She had two goals in a 14-5 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) on April 13.

Adam Marsh (West Warwick)

The 5-foot-7, 170-pound junior right-hander is the top pitcher for the Lasell (Mass.) baseball team, the Lazers 2113 overall and in third place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a 10-4 record. The Bishop Hendricken graduate is 5-0 with two saves and a 2.45 earned run average. He has pitched in 11 games with six starts and has a complete game. In 47.2 innings he has given up 41 hits and 16 runs, 13 earned, with 24 walks and 48 strikeouts.

Shelby Roode (Ashaway)

The junior utility player is hitting .343 for the Framingham State softball team, the Rams 14-12 overall and 9-3 in the Massachuse­tts State Collegate Athletic Conference. The Chariho Regional graduate has 24 hits in 70 at-bats with two doubles, a triple, seven runs scored and 17 runs batted in. She has a 12-game hitting streak and is 15-for-27 during that stretch. Roode has been the mainly team’s designated player but when she is in the field, she has made just on error on 36 chances (.972.). nd

AJ Guindon (Coventry)

The senior outfielder has started all 24 games for the Wheaton (Mass.) baseball team, the Lyons 15-9 overall and 9-4 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. The Bishop

Hendricken graduate is hitting .296 (29-for-98) with five doubles, a triple, two home runs, 18 runs scored and 14 runs batted in. He is also 5-for-5 in stolen bases. Guindon is having a big season on defense. He has handled 69 chances without an error.

Phoebe Dolan (North Kingstown)

The freshman midfielder/ defender has played in all 15 games with 12 starts for the 5-10 Oberlin (OH) women’s lacrosse team. The St. MaryBay View graduate has 12 points on 10 goals and two assists. In the team’s third game of the season, Dolan scored three goals in a 20-6 victory on Feb. 24 at Centre in Danville, KY. She has been outstandin­g on both ends of the field. She has 16 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and 16 draw controls.

Jacob Koble (Narraganse­tt)

The 6-foot-3 sophomore right-hander has a 1-2 record with a save for the Dean (Mass.) baseball team, the Bulldogs 9-22 overall and 2-13 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference after a 7-4 conference victory at Elms Monday. Koble started but didn’t get the victory. The Narraganse­tt High graduate has pitched in 12 games with three starts. In 36.0 innings, he has given up 45 hits and 30 runs, 28 earned, with 20 walks and 32 strikeouts.
