Margaret M. Gilbert
ESCONDIDO, Cal. — Margaret Mary Gilbert, of Escondido, CA, died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the home of her dear friends, Karen and Ralph Russum while up visiting for the summer. She was 95.
Margaret Mary Gilbert was born Dec. 4, 1922 in Vanblever, MD, the daughter of the late Charles Norris and Christine “Lomar” Norris. Mrs. Gilbert was a 1939 graduate of Abingdon High School where shortly after she graduated she married the late Earl J. Gilbert and the two were married for 50 years. Mrs. Gilbert briefly worked at Aberdeen Proving Grounds while her husband was in the ser vice. In 1953 the two moved to California and began raising turkeys.
Mrs. Gilbert would return to the Eastern Shore every year to her farm and visit family and friends and enjoy the peaceful serenity of the Chester River and Eastern Shore living. Mrs. Gilbert was a Lifetime member of the VFW in Ansa, CA. She loved to travel the world, go to auctions, shop, eating in restaurants and loved hearing stories from her friends and family about their hunting and fishing experiences on her farm. Ms. Gilbert had a zest for life that was infectious. Her family and friends described her as curious, interested in anything new, spunky, determined, full of energy, caring, feisty, a heart of love and a never give up spirit for living. She liked to be current in the world and religiously read the newspaper from front to back. After her husband passed she spent 22 years with her good friend and companion, the late JP Wagoner.
She is survived by her brother, Claiborne Norris (Carolyn) of Chestertown, MD; extended family, Ralph and Karen Russum, JR, Jen, Abby, Wyatt Russum, Julie, Robert, Emily, and Nate Smith, Paul Hinkle of Idaho, Deborah Hinkle of Indiana, Mary Pfeifer of Arizona, Jerry Vanderdussen; niece, Beverly Hawes and family of Bel Air, MD, Jim and Georgette Haley, Cathy Weseloh and Marsha and Bonnie and Jim Mendenhall.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 3-4 p.m. at Fellows Family Funeral Home 379 Cypress St. Millington, MD 21651. A time of sharing and Celebration will be held at 4 p.m.
A reception will follow also at the funeral home with light food and refreshment. Burial will take place in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Joppa, MD, at a later date.
