Applaud those who stepped up as candidates

The Star Democrat - - OPINION -

As I write this on the evening of Election Day, I am indeed anxious to learn how it will turn out when the results are tallied by tomorrow morning. Having participated in this process by helping in a campaign for the first time in decades, I am increasingly grateful to have this liberty. Knocking on doors, meeting neighbors and fellow Talbot Countians and discussing what’s best for our state, country and county has been a privilege I had not expected.

In addition I am also grateful for those citizens who have decided to step up as candidates to accept the challenge and responsibility of public service. These are at times extremely difficult jobs, and for relatively ordinary income these elected officials risk their personal and financial security while spending valuable time away from their jobs and families. Let’s applaud them all, as they help us all become winners through this process of democracy! Thank you. MICHAEL J. FISHER Easton
