Single mom and son adjust to life on the Shore
Tina, a single mother, and her young son Robert could hear the sound of gunshots nearly every evening in their Anacostia neighborhood in Washington, D.C.
Police and ambulance sirens were constant, and there was no telling what could happen when they set foot outside their doors.
When Robert turned 6 earlier this year, Tina made the decision that it was just not safe enough to send him to school in the city.
So she packed up everything they had and headed for her sister’s house in Denton.
Her sister graciously has allowed them to stay until they get established.
Robert is in first grade in elementary school and likes his classmates. He is making lots of friends and his teachers say he is doing well.
He and his friends love to play soccer.
Tina has just landed a job and is looking for a place she and Robert can call home, but right now, money is hard to come by for Christmas gifts.
Tina says Robert needs some new clothes for school, a warm coat, a soccer ball and some equipment that will get him outdoors and practicing for spring. Your donation to The Star
