Permit Tech of the Year recognized at Council Meeting
EASTON — Talbot County Permits and Inspections Permit Technician I/ Plan Reviewer I Grace Davis was recognized at the Talbot County Council Meeting on Tuesday evening.
Davis was awarded Permit Technician of the Year by the Maryland Building Officials Association on Dec. 4, 2018. She was recognized for her outstanding service, commitment and contributions to the organization in promoting professionalism and consistency in the application and enforcement of building codes throughout the state.
Davis has worked for Talbot County Permits and Inspections for 14 years. This is the first time that someone was nominated and selected from the Eastern Shore to be the Permit Technician of the Year for the state of Maryland.
“I’m very honored and the person I met one time nominated me, and I’m ver y honored and it was very unexpected,” said Davis. “I’m very fortunate to serve the county and the citizens of the county and I appreciate the opportunity to work for Talbot County and do what I do.”
Talbot County Permits and Inspection Manager Brent Garner also recognized the hard work and dedication Davis has put in for the past 14 years; and noted during the council meeting that she attends a lot of service learning hours, and showcases her outgoing personality to everyone she meets.
“Grace has attended a lot of service learning hours and in doing so you have a
chance to meet other people throughout the state, through Maryland Building Officials Association,” said Garner. “She was talking to other people, she was nominated through someone from the Western Shore to be the Permit Tech of the Year for being as outgoing as she is and for the knowledge she knows. So she made quite an impression on this individual.”
Council Member Laura Price recalls coming into council and noticing that the Talbot County Office of Permits and Inspections being under scrutiny. She said that at one point that there was a lot of complaints.
However, one thing that Talbot County strives for is to take care of citizens, and Price admired Davis for setting the example of how to handle customer service.
“Customer service is two words that you hear a lot. You (Davis) embody that and have lifted this department and we thank you very much for setting that example for everyone else that is in the department,” said Price. “And making it so much easier for everyone that comes in and visits.”
Council Vice President Chuck Callahan was also proud of Davis’ work noting that she stands out as an employee and is reliable for the job.
“You do such a great job. You come from a service where there is a lot of people that need to take a look at that because you do a phenomenal job, you really do,” said Callahan. “You do stand out and, Brent, you have a great person, and someone you can count on. You (Davis) make the department really shine. I’m really happy for you and proud of you,” said Callahan.
