Per­mit Tech of the Year rec­og­nized at Coun­cil Meet­ing

EAS­TON — Tal­bot County Per­mits and In­spec­tions Per­mit Tech­ni­cian I/ Plan Re­viewer I Grace Davis was rec­og­nized at the Tal­bot County Coun­cil Meet­ing on Tues­day even­ing.

Davis was awarded Per­mit Tech­ni­cian of the Year by the Mary­land Build­ing Of­fi­cials As­so­ci­a­tion on Dec. 4, 2018. She was rec­og­nized for her out­stand­ing ser­vice, com­mit­ment and con­tri­bu­tions to the or­ga­ni­za­tion in pro­mot­ing pro­fes­sion­al­ism and con­sis­tency in the ap­pli­ca­tion and en­force­ment of build­ing codes through­out the state.

Davis has worked for Tal­bot County Per­mits and In­spec­tions for 14 years. This is the first time that some­one was nom­i­nated and se­lected from the East­ern Shore to be the Per­mit Tech­ni­cian of the Year for the state of Mary­land.

“I’m very hon­ored and the per­son I met one time nom­i­nated me, and I’m ver y hon­ored and it was very un­ex­pected,” said Davis. “I’m very for­tu­nate to serve the county and the cit­i­zens of the county and I ap­pre­ci­ate the op­por­tu­nity to work for Tal­bot County and do what I do.”

Tal­bot County Per­mits and In­spec­tion Man­ager Brent Gar­ner also rec­og­nized the hard work and ded­i­ca­tion Davis has put in for the past 14 years; and noted dur­ing the coun­cil meet­ing that she at­tends a lot of ser­vice learn­ing hours, and show­cases her out­go­ing per­son­al­ity to every­one she meets.

“Grace has at­tended a lot of ser­vice learn­ing hours and in do­ing so you have a

chance to meet other peo­ple through­out the state, through Mary­land Build­ing Of­fi­cials As­so­ci­a­tion,” said Gar­ner. “She was talk­ing to other peo­ple, she was nom­i­nated through some­one from the West­ern Shore to be the Per­mit Tech of the Year for be­ing as out­go­ing as she is and for the knowl­edge she knows. So she made quite an im­pres­sion on this in­di­vid­ual.”

Coun­cil Mem­ber Laura Price re­calls com­ing into coun­cil and notic­ing that the Tal­bot County Of­fice of Per­mits and In­spec­tions be­ing un­der scru­tiny. She said that at one point that there was a lot of com­plaints.

How­ever, one thing that Tal­bot County strives for is to take care of cit­i­zens, and Price ad­mired Davis for set­ting the ex­am­ple of how to han­dle cus­tomer ser­vice.

“Cus­tomer ser­vice is two words that you hear a lot. You (Davis) em­body that and have lifted this de­part­ment and we thank you very much for set­ting that ex­am­ple for every­one else that is in the de­part­ment,” said Price. “And mak­ing it so much eas­ier for every­one that comes in and vis­its.”

Coun­cil Vice Pres­i­dent Chuck Cal­la­han was also proud of Davis’ work not­ing that she stands out as an em­ployee and is re­li­able for the job.

“You do such a great job. You come from a ser­vice where there is a lot of peo­ple that need to take a look at that be­cause you do a phenom­e­nal job, you re­ally do,” said Cal­la­han. “You do stand out and, Brent, you have a great per­son, and some­one you can count on. You (Davis) make the de­part­ment re­ally shine. I’m re­ally happy for you and proud of you,” said Cal­la­han.
