Don’t keep going over old history

- BY REV. ANNE PRUETT-BARNETT

Many of us take pleasure at this time of year in the art of rehashing the details of the past year’s experiences, dissecting these, analyzing every inch of them – even the most painful – hoping to gain wisdom from them. That’s what we tell ourselves. The problem is often we find ourselves more concerned with holding on to matters of the past rather than with living fully in the present with the expectation God is about to do a brand new thing in our lives and in the greater world!

Yet, isn’t that the divine promise found in the Christian Bible in the book of Isaiah 43: 18-19b? (The Message)

“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is!”

As the new year begins, consciously decide to be alert to the brand-new experience that God promises us is “bursting out!”
