‘Journeys Imagined’ opens at Adkins

RIDGELY — Whether representational or abstract, there’s magic in Chester artist John Moran’s paintings, on display now at Adkins Arboretum.

“Journeys Imagined,” his show of watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, is full of glowing color and animated trees, hills, clouds and abstract forms.

For Moran, painting is a method of creating visual poetry. Never planning the finished painting ahead of time, he works organically, brushing paint on, removing it and repainting, all the while responding to the subtle relationships each change creates. As a result, his paintings have a captivating sense of aliveness.

There will be a reception to meet the artist from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.
