Lybrand - 70th Anniversary
Jack V. Lybrand and Melba L. Baughman, originally from Wagener, S.C., were married November 6, 1948 in Aiken, S.C. by Judge E. Glenn Willis. The couple joyfully celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends on November 10th at the Katie & Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center.
Jack is a WW II veteran who served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Melba worked as a homemaker, waitress, sales clerk and cashier. Following military retirement, the couple settled in Columbia where they owned and operated a Mr. Softee ice cream truck for several years. Jack later taught vocational trades including shop and auto mechanics at several schools including Lexington and Eau Claire High School until his final retirement in 1988.
The couple has a son Douglas (Debra) W. Lybrand who lives in Elgin, S.C. They also have a grandchild, John (Rhonda) Branham and a great-grandchild, Hagen Dowdy.
