Ly­brand - 70th An­niver­sary

Jack V. Ly­brand and Melba L. Baugh­man, orig­i­nally from Wa­gener, S.C., were mar­ried Novem­ber 6, 1948 in Aiken, S.C. by Judge E. Glenn Wil­lis. The cou­ple joy­fully cel­e­brated their 70th wed­ding an­niver­sary with fam­ily and friends on Novem­ber 10th at the Katie & Ir­win Kahn Jewish Com­mu­nity Cen­ter.

Jack is a WW II vet­eran who served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as an air­craft me­chanic. Melba worked as a home­maker, wait­ress, sales clerk and cashier. Fol­low­ing mil­i­tary re­tire­ment, the cou­ple set­tled in Columbia where they owned and op­er­ated a Mr. Sof­tee ice cream truck for sev­eral years. Jack later taught vo­ca­tional trades in­clud­ing shop and auto me­chan­ics at sev­eral schools in­clud­ing Lex­ing­ton and Eau Claire High School un­til his fi­nal re­tire­ment in 1988.

The cou­ple has a son Dou­glas (De­bra) W. Ly­brand who lives in El­gin, S.C. They also have a grand­child, John (Rhonda) Bran­ham and a great-grand­child, Ha­gen Dowdy.
