NO. 12 KANSAS STATE FENDS OFF LE­HIGH AF­TER HALF­TIME

Dean Wade scored 14 of his 18 points in the sec­ond half, Barry Brown added 16 and No. 12 Kansas State beat Le­high 77-58 on Satur­day in Man­hat­tan, Kan.

The Wild­cats (6-0) con­trolled the sec­ond half af­ter the Moun­tain Hawks hung around and trailed by two at half­time. They con­tin­ued their home shoot­ing woes, mak­ing 6 of 20 3-point at­tempts.

James Karnik had 15 points and eight re­bounds for Le­high (4-2), which com­piled 16 turnovers and made just nine field goals in the sec­ond half, shoot­ing 28 per­cent.

Kansas State led 37-35 at half­time as nei­ther team build a lead larger than five in the first 20 min­utes.

HIGH­LIGHTS

No. 13 Vir­ginia Tech 75, Saint Fran­cis (Pa.) 37: Ahmed Hill scored 19 points, and the Hok­ies (5-0) quickly pulled away dur­ing the sec­ond half in Blacks­burg, Va. Ty Out­law added 15 points, all on 3-point­ers. Myles Thomp­son had 14 for the Red Flash (1-4), who shot 25.9 per­cent and com­mit­ted 22 turnovers.

No. 22 Buf­falo 76, Marist 49: CJ Mass­in­burg scored 21 points, Jayvon Graves added 16 and the Bulls (5-0) found their stroke and over­came a slow start to beat the Red Foxes (1-4). Buf­falo, which is in its first-ever stint in the AP Top 25, is 5-0 for the first time since 1985-86, when it com­peted in Divi­sion III.

The Citadel 84, South Florida 81: Lew Stall­worth tossed in 25 points, and sopho­more re­serve Kaiden Rice scored 22 as the Bull­dogs (3-2) ral­lied late to beat the Bulls (4-2) in Tampa.

Laquincy Rideau – who scored six straight points to give USF a 79-75 lead with 2:39 re­main­ing – and David Collins led the hosts with 21 apiece.

Drew gets 300th win at Bay­lor: King Mcclure scored a ca­reer-high 27 points, and coach Scott Drew earned his 300th vic­tory with Bay­lor as the Bears (4-2) beat George Ma­son 72-61 for third place at the Emer­ald Coast Clas­sic in Niceville, Fla. Drew, who is in his 15th sea­son with Bay­lor, is one of 17 ac­tive coaches with 300 wins at their present school.

His 320th over­all win also gives him one half as many as his fa­ther, Homer.
