Smack in the heart of the largest desert in south­ern Africa you’ll find what ap­pears to be a mir­a­cle of na­ture: the Oka­vango Delta of Botswana, home to one of the most di­verse habi­tats on Planet Earth. Each year, this re­gion un­der­goes a mind-bog­gling trans­for­ma­tion that turns this usu­ally aus­tere waste­land into a lush wa­ter­land that acts as a life­line to many crea­tures. For oth­ers, how­ever, the flood­wa­ters bring harsh chal­lenges. An­gela Bas­sett nar­rates.

Jil­lian (Kali Hawk, “New Girl”) is such a good po­lit­i­cal con­sul­tant she can “spin” al­most any sit­u­a­tion, and as this new hol­i­day fan­tasy opens, she’s about to launch the may­oral cam­paign of her boyfriend, George (Da­mon Day­oub, “Stitch­ers”). As she’s head­ing off on a Christ­mas trip to meet George’s fam­ily for the first time, how­ever, Jil­lian has an un­canny en­counter with a toy-store Santa that leaves her with a highly in­con­ve­nient new com­pul­sion: She can’t stop blurt­ing out the truth about ev­ery­thing.

Adapted from an ad­dic­tive true­crime pod­cast by Los An­ge­les Times re­porter Christo­pher Gof­fard, this new eight-episode lim­ited se­ries stars Con­nie Brit­ton (“Nashville”) as South­ern Cal­i­for­nia in­te­rior de­signer and sin­gle mom De­bra Newell, who is quickly swept off her feet by hand­some Dr. John Mee­han (Eric Bana). The whirl­wind courtship that fol­lows un­folds at such a dizzy­ing pace that it alarms De­bra’s two daugh­ters (Ju­lia Gar­ner, Juno Tem­ple), who even­tu­ally dis­cover Mee­han is a charis­matic con­man. Jean Smart also stars.
