Mr. Robert “Ken­neth” Laird, age 96, of Gulfport, MS, passed away Jan­uary 2, 2019.

Mr. Laird was born on May 16, 1922 in Car­son, MS to the late Rex and Maude Laird. Mr. Laird was a Vet­eran of the United States Navy. He started as a Gun­ner Mate in WWII, rose to the rank of Chief Petty Of­fi­cer, and even taught mil­i­tary history his last two years of ser­vice. Mr. Laird re­tired from the Navy after 30 years of ser­vice to his coun­try. Mr. Laird was awarded the Good Con­duct Medal for his mil­i­tary ser­vice.

Mr. Laird was mar­ried to his sweet­heart, Delia, on July 7, 1952. The cou­ple had one daugh­ter and one son. In 1966, Mr. Laird be­came a Qual­ity Con­trol Tech­ni­cian for NASA. In 1984, he re­tired to his farm in Gulfport, where he en­joyed many re­lax­ing years of fish­ing and gardening.

Mr. Laird was a true fam­ily man. He loved and cared deeply for his wife. He was a lov­ing fa­ther to his chil­dren. He was friendly, kind and op­ti­mistic. Mr. Laird was a long­time Mas­ter Ma­son of the Po­lar Star Lodge # 0154.

Along with his par­ents, Mr. Laird was pre­ceded in death by his son: Robert “Keith” Laird, broth­ers and sis­ters: H.A. Laird, Ce­cil Laird, James Laird, Ford Laird, Johnny Laird, Her­schel Laird, Linda Car­son, Emo­gene Laird and El­iz­a­beth Laird. He is sur­vived by his wife of 66 years: Delia Ju­lia Laird of Gulfport, MS; daugh­ter and son-in-law: Janet and Chuck Gillen of Ty­rone, GA; sis­ter: Grace Fer­ris of Las Ve­gas, NV.
