Burnsville, North Carolina - Barton Guy Blackman, 70, of Burnsville, NC passed suddenly at home on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Bart was born February 26, 1954 and raised in La Grande, Oregon alongside his five siblings by loving parents. Upon graduating high school, Bart joined the United States Navy. Bart continued his career with Lockheed Martin, working on naval defense systems. After a fulfilling career, Bart retired from the Aegis Weapons System team, but went on to work as a civilian contractor with the US Navy. Retiring for good in 2016, Bart moved with his wife to the mountains of North Carolina

to enjoy retirement.

Bart was a light in every room he filled, sharing his love freely with all. Bart loved his family more than anything, and made a point that they knew, through hugs when possible, but by phone calls and texts often.

Bart is survived by his loving wife, Amy, and his children by birth, by marriage, and all by love: Kimberly Stanton, Hollie Blackman, Joshua (Emma) Brought, Zachary (Amanda) Brought, Matthew DiIorio, and Kayla (Whitney) Reid. He is also survived by his siblings Thomas (Betty) Blackman, Randy (Ellen) Blackman, Elva (Mitch) Emmons, and Teresa (Ken) Moody, as well as eight grandchild­ren and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bart was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Phyllis Blackman, his brother Walt (Leslie) Blackman, and Paw Paw’s baby girl (granddaugh­ter), Kaylie Stanton, who he’s finally able to hug again.

A celebratio­n of Bart’s amazing life will be planned in the near future.
