Students in the Culinary Arts program at Nashoba Valley Technical High School placed third at the recent 13th annual Prostart Invitational, an all-day competition held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

At the event, which is sponsored by the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, unites the foodservice industry and classroom to offer highschool students a platform to discover new interests and talents while opening doors to fulfilling careers.

Teams were tasked with preparing an entire a three-course meal in less than an hour without using battery-operated equipment or an oven, using only induction burners.

Nashoba Tech’s team — Michael Butcher ( junior, Townsend), Addison Cosker ( junior, Shirley), Cheyenne Fuchs (senior, Tewksbury), Brianna Schmoyer (senior, Harvard) and Connor Stenquist ( junior, Chelmsford) — had to decide on a menu, plan it and prepare it.

Chef-instructor Carley Capraro helped the team prepare for the competition and attended the event.

“I am so proud of what these children accomplished,” Capraro said. “They are so creative, talented and dedicated. They worked so hard to get where they are, and I love showing the state what our students at Nashoba Tech can accomplish.”

The winner of the competition, Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School of Rochester, advances to the National Prostart Invitational.

The event featured wellknown New England celebrity judges, including Jarvis Green, former New England Patriots player and owner of Oceans 97; Andy Husbands, owner/ pitmaster of The Smoke Shop BBQ; and Paul Wahlberg, chef/owner of Wahlburgers and TV personality.
