Robertsons celebrate 70th anniversary Jan. 13

-

Richard and Lillian Robertson Jr. of Lowell will celebrate 70 years of marriage on Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Both are lifelong residents of Lowell. Lillian grew up in the Acre section and Richard in Ayers City. They met in 1950 at the Capitol Theater on Middlesex Street. The movie theater was the place where all the young men and women went in those days. At the theater, Richard asked Lillian on a date to the Ice Follies in Boston, and Lillian said yes. That is when their love affair began. Lillian still has a souvenir from that day.

They were married at St. Patrick’s Church in Lowell, and on their 50th wedding anniversary, they renewed their vows with the same priest who married them. They bought a home in the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, where they still reside today.

They have three children: Richard Robertson

III and his partner, Marissa Caputo, of Wells, Maine; David Robertson and his wife, Ilze Dauvarte-robertson, of Latvia; and Cheryl Robertson and her husband, Dr. Maurice Foucher, of Naples Fla.

They have three grandchildren: Michael Robertson of Laconia, N.H.; Richard M. Robertson and his wife, Tugba Robertson, of Placerville, Calif.; and Kelli Yancey and her husband, Tim Yancey of Cameron Park, Calif.

They also have four great-grandchildren: Jules and Michaela Robertson, both of Gilford, N.H.; Dilara Robertson of Placerville, Calif.; and Jack Yancey of Cameron Park, Calif.

The celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary has been postponed due to COVID-19 until everyone can safely enjoy it. The Robertsons welcome driveby shutouts from their friends, family and neighbors on their special day.
