According to Basketball Reference (basketballreference.com), Brown bettered a group that includes Philadelphia’s Chet Walker (1965, 31 pts, 15 min.), Kevin Durant (OKC, 2014, 31/19), John Drew (Atlanta, 1981, 29/19), the Celtics’ Sam Jones (1961, 28/18), and Kiki Vandeweghe (Denver, 1982, 28/12).

Stevens can only imagine how far Brown goes from here. As the Celtics coach pointed out before Monday’s Bulls game, there are no ceilings.

“Jaylen has shown nothing but a guy that’s willing to improve, a guy that’s going to work hard to improve,” he said. “And regardless of if you’re the person who gets all the headlines, or if you’re the 15th guy on the roster, if you’re not getting better, you’re not going to continue to be good. And so, I think that that’s one of the things that we talk about all the time is like having that desire to grow, that desire to improve.

“Nobody embodies that better than Jaylen,” said Stevens. “That’s shown in his game and in his ascension thus far. But there are so many other little things that sometimes we talk about, sometimes we don’t, that I just think that we all can improve upon. So yeah, he can keep getting better, for sure.”

Up in the air

Monday night’s game between San Antonio and New Orleans was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, and as such the Celtics aren’t sure of the status of their own trip to San Antonio for a game on Wednesday.

The Celtics are fortunate that they didn’t plan to fly following their game in Chicago. They’ll have a better idea on Tuesday morning.

“My thought would be that we should not fly there until we know,” said Stevens. “That’s the bottom line. That’s my only thought going through my mind with all the travel we have coming up.”

The Celtics return home for a game against the Lakers on Saturday.
