‘A World of Music’ earns award
As part of Bedford TV’S annual awards ceremony, Middlesex Community College’s “A World of Music” concert series was awarded Best Musical Performance.
Carmen Rodriguez-peralta, chair of MCC’S Music Department and director of “A World of Music,” received the award for her performance on the piano.
“I am thrilled that the concert series was recognized by receiving the Best Musical Performance award from Bedford TV,” Rodriguez-peralta said. “We are grateful that Bedford TV records so many of our concerts held in the MCC Concert Hall in Bedford, and we also value our loyal audience members from the Bedford area.”
The fall 2020 concert series included several performances recorded live and aired on Bedford TV for the community to enjoy.
Rodriguez-peralta’s winning performance drew inspiration from puzzles, including two sets of “Preludes and Fugues in C Major” by Johann Sebastian Bach and Larry Bell; “Sonata in A flat Major,
Op. 110” by Ludwig van Beethoven; “Prelude from ‘Pour le Piano’” by Claude Debussy; and four “Preludios Americanos” by Alberto Ginastera.
A graduate of The Juilliard School, Rodriguez-peralta has appeared as a piano soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Peru and Mexico. She is often invited to give lecture recitals on Latin American music at universities in the U.S.
Rodriguez-peralta started the concert series in the fall of 2001 with concerts in MCC’S Bedford Concert Hall. Over the years, the series has expanded to include performances in Lowell as well.
This past fall’s performances included “Lowell Threads: Mozart, Marshall, Nabors and Nakatani,” with MCC faculty members and the Lowell Chamber Orchestra; guitarist Jerome Mouffe; “Hidden Landscapes” by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra; and an MCC Student Recital.
