Church members drop groceries at Lowell Housing Authority units
LOWELL » Many residents of Lowell Housing Authority units will have a full Thanksgiving meal this week, thanks to members of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.
Members of the church delivered 72 turkeys and other food Saturday morning to residents of the row houses between Hancock Street and Common Avenue, right next to the church building.
“We wanted to do something local for our neighbors,” said church board member Chris- tian Zouzas, who organized the meal distribution. “When you send a check to this or that organization, you don’t see the effects, but the most powerful thing you can do is help your neighbor out.”
Every unit received a turkey and a bag complete with dinner rolls, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce and gravy, all uncooked so that they could be prepared by each family a thanksgiving meal sits on the porch of a lowell Housing authority unit, delivered by members of transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church on saturday.

For future Thanksgivings, Zouzas said that he hopes they can deliver meals to even more residents of the Housing Authority complex, which also includes several apartment buildings, but for now, they don’t have access to those buildings.
The church has also hosted Thanksgiving dinners in the past, but because of the COVID19 pandemic, it hasn’t been able to do so for the past two years.
“We thought we’d bring it to them,” said John Dristiliaris, who helped distribute the meals.
Zouzas said that many of the families who they met Saturday morning were especially happy to receive the help this year, when turkey prices have skyrocketed due to supply chain is
