SCANLON, HAWKS STAY HOT IN THE COLD

Innovation Academy shuts out Greater Lawrence

Not even whipping winds and dipping temperatur­es could cool off Delaney Scanlon and the Innovation Academy Charter girls soccer team.

Coming off a four-goal performanc­e against Lowell Catholic, Scanlon tallied more three goals to power the Hawks to a 6-0 win at Greater Lawrence Tech on Friday. Scanlon also dished out a pair of assists. Raziyah Macy scored the second and third goals in the first half.

Kaleigh Mccarthy scored unassisted to cap the scoring. Alex Butters, Serena Vitorino, Gianna Hebert and Yuli Mamet played well on defense in the shutout. LITTLETON 5, TYNGSBORO 2 >> In a battle of the Tigers, host Littleton

captured the victory as Erin Proulx and Lily Doucette both found the back of the net twice, once in each half. Undefeated Littleton (6-0) also received a pair of assists from Norah Kobaly. Tyngsboro dipped to 1-5. ANDOVER 2, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1 >> Despite a goal by Macy Daigle, the Raiders were nipped by their MVC rival. Lauren Sanchez made 3 saves for Central (2-2-2) in the hard-fought battle. CHELMSFORD 1, DRACUT 1 >> Goalkeeper Maddie Climo was terrific as the host Lions tied Dracut in a MVC battle. Scoring Chelmsford’s goal at Simonian Stadium was Bella Madrid following a pass from Taija Bell. INNOVATION 4, LOWELL CATHOLIC 3 >> In a high-scoring contest Thursday, scoring goals for Lowell Catholic were senior midfielder Jess Hodgdon, junior midfielder Eva Warren and senior forward Sophia Mishol. Picking up assists were Mishol, Catherine Antwi and Hodgdon. The Crusaders finished with 23 shots.

NASHOBA TECH 2, LYNN TECH 0 >> The Vikings continued their strong start to the season with a home shutout victory.

Field hockey

LITTLETON 3, TYNGSBORO 1 >> Amelia Rogers tallied two goals to spark Littleton to victory. Also finding the back of the cage were Kailey Hannon, while Belle Field and Lindsey Barbella added assists, and Kat Anjoorian and Jacinda Sanders were standouts. Freshmen Sophie

Blaine and Maggie Crowley provided aggressive play for Littleton (4-1-1). Victoria Mccoy made three saves.

For Tyngsboro (2-5), Mia Sacco tallied the goal and Isabella Shaffer finished with six saves.

WATERTOWN 7, WILMINGTON 0 >> The Wildcats ran into a buzzsaw as perennial state power Watertown put on a clinic and stayed undefeated (7-0).

SHEPHERD HILL 3, NORTH MIDDLESEX 2 >> The Patriots were nipped at home in Townsend and fell to 2-2 on the season. Owen Kondek scored a pair of goals for the visitors.

GREATER LOWELL 1, GR. NEW BEDFORD 1 >> Coming off their first loss of the season, the Gryphons travelled a good distance and came home with a tie. Kwasi Boateng netted Greater Lowell’s lone goal. Starring for the Gryphons (4-2-1) were Antonio Martins, Shaun Silva and Kevin O’brien. In goal, Brian Borges made five saves.

Boys cross country

AYER SHIRLEY 15, NARRAGANSE­TT 50 >> Patrick Bergin and Jake Leone were a potent 1-2 punch for the winning Panthers. Bergin covered the 3.0 mile distance in Ayer in 19:26, while Leone was the runner-up just one second back for the Panthers (3-1).

Girls cross country

AYER SHIRLEY 20, NARRAGANSE­TT 43 >> A Narraganse­tt runner captured the race in Ayer, but the Panthers’ superior depth was the key. Finishing in the 2-5 spots were Carolyn Mason, Niamh Fallon, Jane Marshall and Gwen Connors for Ayer Shirley (2-2).

Girls volleyball

BILLERICA 3, DRACUT 0 >> Ella Quin was a force at the net for the victorious Indians in the 25-11, 25-14, 2521 win. Quin provided five kills and two blocks, while Meaghan Downs had 13 service aces.

LOWELL CATHOLIC 3, MYSTIC VALLEY 0 >>The Crusaders remained red hot with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-22 victory. Lowell Catholic (6-1) produced another strong allaround team effort. MASCONOMET 3, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0 >> The Raiders fell during non-league action 25-19, 25-10, 26-24. Eva Coutu led Central (23) with 11 digs and 14 service points. CONCORD-CARLISLE 3, WESTFORD 1 >> The Grey Ghosts fought hard and won the third set, but it wasn’t enough in a 25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 25-14 DCL defeat on the road.

GREATER LOWELL 3, GR. LAWRENCE 0 >> The Gryphons improved to 6-1 thanks, in part, to terrific defense from Yasmin Braga and Jesyl Alcantaro. Set scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-20.

Golf

NORTH MIDDLESEX 46, SHEPHERD HILL 8 >> Andrew Peterson, Shawn Amari and Max Caliri all shot even par 35’s to tie for medalist honors for North Middlesex during a match at Northern Spy Golf Club. DREW TO COMPETE >> Tyngsboro High senior Trevor Drew will tee it up Sunday at the prestigiou­s Cape Cod National Golf Club High School Invitation­al. The one-day tournament will be held at Cape Cod National and features many of the top players in Massachuse­tts.

Drew has consistent­ly shot rounds under par this fall for the Tigers and is also coming off a strong summer which saw him among the leaders through two rounds at the Lowell City Golf Tournament. He teed off in the final group in the third and final round.

Drew has shot several fine nine-hole rounds at Tyngsboro High’s home course, Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, N.H., which features a challengin­g layout.

He has earned his reputation as one of the state’s top young golfers. He is a member at Long Meadow Golf Club in Lowell.

Ryan Downes of Longmeadow is the defending individual champion. Attempting to defend the team title is St. John’s Shrewsbury. The tournament will feature 11 individual­s and 13 teams.

Swimming

METHUEN/TEWKSBURY

100, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 80 >> Methuen/tewksbury captured seven individual events en route to the MVC victory. Jonathan Phan (200 IM, 2:24.23; 100 free, 56.21), Matthew Jo (50 free, 24.76; 100 backstroke, 1:02.41) and Carter Delano (500 free, 5:28.09; 100 breaststro­ke, 1:09.72) all won two events.

Philip Nguyen captured the 100 fly in 1:05.07. T/M also won the 400 free, 200 free and 200 medley relays. Both teams are now 2-2.

Football

SATURDAY SCHEDULE >> After two games Thursday night and 12 on a busy Friday night, Saturday will feature two games.

Lee/lenox Memorial (11) will play at Lowell Catholic (2-0). The game is at 11 a.m. at Chelmsford High’s Simonian Stadium. At 3 p.m., Nauset Regional (11) of North Eastham will head to Townsend to take on North Middlesex (1-1).
