Shawsheen wins CAC golf title

The Shawsheen Tech golf team captured the CAC 18hole league tournament on Friday at Crystal Lake Golf Course in Haverhill.

Taking the top four scores out of five, the Rams finished ahead of the pack by 12 strokes with a total of 311. Matt Tramonte earned medalist honors by shooting a 74. He was also named the CAC’S MVP.

Teammate Tyler Tsoukalas placed second after firing a 77. Also contributi­ng to the title by shooting rounds in the 80’s were

Liam Milne, Colin Lawson and Max Carpenter.

The team will compete in the state sectionals on Tuesday at the Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge.

Girls cross country

LOWELL’S GILMAN SIXTH >> The Red Raiders competed at the Catholic Memorial Invitation­al at Franklin Park. Senior capt. Annie Gilman finished sixth. Freshman Ella Machado was 19th and sophomore Sabrina Cady took 31st. The team finished ninth out of 17 teams. Top 10 runners received trophies, 11-50 received medals.

DUARTE 23RD FOR TYNGSBORO >> The Tigers travelled to Cape Cod to compete in the Large School edition of the Twilight Invitation­al in Barnstable. Freshman standout Isabella Duarte was 23rd in the varsity girls race with a time of 19:51.

Boys cross country

TYNGSBORO 11TH >> The Tigers took 11th at the Twilight Invitation­al in Barnstable. Jack Gramer (41st, 17:03), Colin Riley (54th, 17:16) and Tyler Hyland (73rd, 17:35) all ran season-best times in the Large School Division.

Three Lowell High runners soared at the Catholic Memorial Invitation­al. Finishing fourth, fifth and sixth, respective­ly in the boys freshman race were Tim Schribman (11:10.77), Jimmy Kelly (11:11.13) and Evan Cohen (11:18.28).

Girls volleyball

NORTH MIDDLESEX 3, MARLBORO 0 >> Meghan Boucher collected five aces, two blocks and two kills to fuel the Patriots to the dominant 25-8, 25-9, 25-11 win. Annie Mcnabb claimed two kills and two digs.

Field hockey

TEWKSBURY 3, LOWELL 2 >> Tewksbury was led to the narrow MVC victory by Kat Schille, who recorded a hat trick as the Redmen won their seventh game of the fall.

For Lowell (3-9-1), senior capt. Abigail Grenier scored Lowell’s first goal assisted by senior capt. Lacey Pare. Senior Ashlee Anderson scored Lowell’s second goal off a rebound.

College football

LUPOLI SHINES >> Junior linebacker Salvatore Lupoli Jr. (Chelmsford/chelmsford HS), the conference leader in tackles, added eight to his total and also had a fumble recovery and a game-clinching intercepti­on as Bentley University won on the road, 10-3, at Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference action at Brian Kelly Stadium. The win was the third straight for the Falcons (5-2, 3-1 NE10).

Bentley, which began the weekend ranked sixth in Division II in scoring defense, yielded only a fourth-quarter field goal and held the Greyhounds to 268 yards total offense and 11 first downs. The Falcon ‘D’ has allowed only one touchdown in the last 14 quarters.
