Trahan receives two House leadership appointments

With her third term underway, U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan is taking on two new responsibilities as a member of the House Democratic Caucus.

Tuesday, Trahan shared the news she had joined House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, of Revere, as a senior member of her whip team. Clark previously held the position in the 114th Congress before ascending through the ranks of House leadership.

As a Senior Whip, Trahan

said she will support Clark’s operation, which is a “critical tool in a narrowly divided chamber to maximize Democratic legislative wins and preserve the progress made during the first two years of the Biden-harris administration.”

“Rep. Lori Trahan is a relentless advocate for the people of Massachusetts’ Third District and an invaluable asset to the House Democratic Caucus,” Clark said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that she will serve our Caucus as a Senior Whip, helping lead our fight to oppose Republicans’ extreme agenda, stand up for women and working families, and build a fairer future for all Americans.”

In addition to becoming a senior whip, Trahan has been appointed to Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’s 13 member Regional Leadership Council, where she will represent the New England region.

On the council, Trahan will work with Chairman Steny Hoyer, the former House majority leader, and senior Biden administration officials on the implementation of landmark legislation including the

Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act.

Jeffries said the council he had appointed will play an important role in this Congress.

Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Safer Communities Act, CHIPS and Science Act, Inflation Reduction Act and other initiatives are brought to life in every corner throughout America. The Regional Leadership Council will focus like a laser beam on executing President Biden’s vision of investing in America,” said Leader Jeffries.

Trahan’s appointment as a senior whip and as a member of the Regional Leadership Council follow her appointment to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
