Spice Drive success

LOWELL — State Rep. Vanna Howard’s Spice Drive to benefit the Coalition for a Better Acre’s food pantry collected 800 spices, more than 100 salt and pepper shakers, 216 oils and vinegars, 286 sauces — such as soy and fish — as well as miscellaneous food pantry items. The Jan. 28 event helped build out culturally connected spices for the pantry so that food recipients can maintain cultural identity, uphold family traditions and to encourage creative and nutritious cooking. Walk-in hours to the pantry, located at 450 Merrimack St., are Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with a break between noon and 1 p.m.) and Wednesdays noon to 5 p.m. For information about donating to the CBA pantry, contact Health Access Program Coordinator Ivana Dauwer at 978483-9082.

100th birthday celebration

DRACUT — The Parker Memorial Library celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and is seeking the public’s help in gathering photos and oral histories to be used in the celebrations.

Photos will be scanned and stored on library computers, and the originals will be returned to the individuals who contributed them.

The library opened in November 1923 thanks to the sister of the philanthropist Moses Greeley Parker, whose donation of land and money made it possible.

In addition to the oral history project and the art/ photo exhibit, events will include a presentation by Rebecca Duda on Notable Locals and a presentation by Richard Howe on Parker’s Life and Legacy. And, of course there will be a birthday party. Dates are not yet finalized.
