Westford boys swim team still perfect

The Westford Academy boys swimming team narrowly defeated Dual County League rival Acton-boxboro, 92-89, to remain undefeated Tuesday.

Quinn Schwab again led the way. Schwab captured the 200 IM in 2:07.64 and 100 breaststro­ke in 1:12.77. He was also part of the winning 200 medley relay in 1:42.49, joining Vincent Xu, Will Esteves and Aedan Curtin.

Also winning events for Westford (13-0) were Jeremiah Small in 1-meter diving (280.8) and Oliver Yorke in the 500 freestyle (5:27.17).

Girls basketball

INNOVATION 44, PIONEER CHARTER 8 >> Alex Butters tallied 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to power the Hawks to the easy win. Sadie Coleman-plourde chipped in nine points and eight rebounds, while Grace Calvagno added seven points and three steals. Also starring for Innovation (8-5) was Maddie Darlington, who had four points and four steals.

DRACUT 54 CHELMSFORD 47 >> In a battle of strong Merrimack Valley Conference teams, the Middies received a terrific game from senior star Ashlee Talbot and posted the win.

Dracut, which led 2517 at halftime, received 25 points, six steals from eight rebounds from Talbot, a guard. Senior center Amaya Alkassar produced 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Middies (8-4, 7-2 MVC).

BILLERICA 55, LOWELL 41 >> Host Billerica captured the Merrimack Valley Conference victory on its home court despite trailing 29-21 at halftime. For Lowell, Lacey Pare and Fiona Haley led the way with nine points each. SHAWSHEEN 35, ESSEX 25 >> Scoring 35 points isn’t enough on some nights, but it is when a team plays tough defense like the Rams did. Leading the victory for the Rams (7-5, 4-3 CAC) were senior captains Lindsay Mccarthy,

who had 12 points and five rebounds, and Kerry Brown, who registered 10 points.

PELHAM 60, MERRIMACK VALLEY 38 >> For a change, Pelham star Jasmine Becotte was held below 20 points, but it didn’t matter as the Pythons rolled to the NHIAA Div. 2 win. Pelham used a 21-8 edge in the second quarter to pull away. Becotte led Pelham with a 16-point effort.

Grace Riley netted 12 points, while Sophia Joncas (8 points), Abby Mcfarland (7 points) and Olivia Todd (6 points) also played crucial roles. WAYLAND 50, WESTFORD 40 >> The Ghosts trailed 2010 and were never able to recover during the Dual County League clash in Wayland. Westford never got the deficit below single digits in the second half. Sparking the WA offense were Alanna Saunders with 14 points and Diya Jayaraman with 12 points.

TYNGSBORO 55, LUNENBURG 40 >> Gianna Donato powered the Tigers to their 10th win with 19 points, eight steals and eight rebounds. Tyngsboro outscored Lunenburg 30-17 in the second half. Katie O’keefe came out hot with 10 points in the first quarter for the Tigers (10-5). Carly Dimento added 11 with 11 rebounds and seven assists. LITTLETON 48, MAYNARD 35 >> Junior guard Victoria Mccoy compiled a team-high 21 points to keep the Tigers rolling. Adding 10 points apiece for red-hot Littleton (11-2) were senior guard Kaylin O’meara and junior forward Kate Allen. ANDOVER 64, TEWKSBURY 46 >> The Redmen put up a strong fight, but undefeated Andover (14-0) captured another MVC victory. Tewksbury led 14-13 after one quarter and only trailed 32-29 at halftime. Andover pulled away with a dominant 21-5 third quarter. WESTBORO 62, NORTH MIDDLESEX 41 >> Despite a 14-point effort from senior Julia Landry, the Patriots were defeated in

Westboro.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 81, LAWRENCE 29 >> The Red Raiders romped to the MVC win at Lawrence High. Kerri Finneran was outstandin­g with a career-high 19 points to go with five steals for the winners. Central led 26-12 after one quarter. SHEPHERD HILL 34, GROTON-DUNSTABLE 23 >> The hosts jumped out to an 11-0 lead after one quarter and Groton-dunstable paid for its slow start in Dudley. Scoring 11 points for the Crusaders (3-12) was Anna Stenstream. ALVIRNE 45, KEENE 33 >> The host Broncos broke out to a 10-5 lead after one quarter and posted the NHIAA win in Hudson, N.H.

NOTRE DAME 37, KIPP 31 >> Playing its second game in as many days, the Academy of Notre Dame was victorious behind Sarah Freitas, who netted a team-high 11 points. Natalie Foy contribute­d eight points, while Brielle Hardy added six of her own.

NASHOBA TECH 50, NOTRE DAME 39 >> The Academy of Notre Dame fell to the Vikings despite a 14-point effort from Natalie Foy on Monday. Chloe Mccomas added 10 points, while Brielle Hardy netted eight points for the Tyngsboro school.

Boys basketball

INNOVATION 67, PIONEER CHARTER 46 >> The Hawks collected their 10th win to qualify for the state tournament as Derrick Twum continued his outstandin­g play. Twum netted 20 points and ripped down 18 rebounds.

Also shining for Innovation (10-3) were Lansana Kaimachian­de with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Sam Horace with 10 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Mason Francisco and Jordy Peña Lugo provided solid defense.

NORTH MIDDLESEX 67, WESTBORO 55 >> Brian Morse netted a team-high 17 points and the Patriots outscored their visitors 17-5 in the second quarter to take control in Townsend. Three other NM players reached double figures — Mike Reardon claimed 12 points, while Jake Steinmann and Cade Callahan added 10 each.

WESTFORD 85, WAYLAND 38 >> The Ghosts produced a strong effort on Senior Night. All of Westford’s seniors scored and the Ghosts got over .500 (76) after the Dual County League victory. SHAWSHEEN 70, GR. LAWRENCE 55 >> Junior Ryan Sweeney brought the energy and finished with 15 points and six steals during ST’S CAC win. Sophomores Matt Breen and Franck Moron finished with 20 and 18 points, respective­ly, for the Rams (8-5, 5-2 CAC).

LOWELL 74, DRACUT 49 >> Senior Javien Kirmil produced an outstandin­g effort on Senior Night by netting a team-high 25 points for Lowell. Jason Kamau added 17 points and six rebounds for the victorious Red Raiders. LAWRENCE 88, CHELMSFORD 46 >> The Lions grabbed an early 12-11 lead, but powerful Lawrence showed why its one of the top teams in the state. Chelmsford trailed 23-14 after one quarter and 47-27 at halftime. Tyler Allen led CHS with 13 points, while Ryan Blagg compiled eight points and nine rebounds. TYNGSBORO 56, LUNENBURG 47 >> The Tigers overcame a 25-22 deficit at halftime to claim the Midwach win. Anthony Nicosia led the way for Tyngsboro with 14 points, 19 rebounds and four assists. Bryce Goulet also enjoyed a terrific game with 15 points and five assists.

Also shining for Tyngsboro (8-6, 5-3 league) were Trevor Drew with 12 points, and Gavin Familia with nine points and five rebounds.

GR. NEW BEDFORD 48, GREATER LOWELL 47 >> The Gryphons played a strong road game, but couldn’t make all the plays down the stretch. Greater Lowell, which is 6-0 in the CAC, falls to 8-4 overall. SHEPHERD HILL 54, GROTON-DUNSTABLE 27 >> The host Crusaders were outscored 20-3 in the second quarter as powerful Shepherd Hill (14-1) pulled away. For Grotonduns­table (6-8), Andrew Strenstrea­m drained 11 points and Pietro Vendramel added seven points. MAYNARD 63, LITTLETON 37 >> The Tigers played a strong third quarter, but a 20-8 deficit after one quarter proved too much to overcome on the road. Littleton (2-10) was powered by 14 points from Justin Manno. Jason Mansour added nine points.

ANDOVER 66, TEWKSBURY 46 >> Andover started strongly in the second half to pull away after Tewksbury played a strong opening half.

Boys hockey

CHELMSFORD 3, XAVERIAN 1>> It was the David Wood show as the Lions skated to an impressive nonleague win. Wood, a junior forward, scored all three goals for Chelmsford, including an empty goal which sealed the victory.

Girls hockey

ANDOVER 2, METHUEN/ TEWKSBURY 0 >> The Red Rangers fell just short at the Breakaway Ice Center in Tewksbury. Andover scored a power-play goal early in the third period and added a late empty net tally.

Wrestling

Tyngsboro/dracut received wins from nine wrestlers in grabbing the road win. Registerin­g wins were Amauri Hernandez, Carter Johnson, Dylan Walker, Nick Nicosia, Tyler Brodeur, Brock Desmarais, Charlie Maraganis, Jet Perez and Luke Mchugh.
