MASCAC honors locals for academic prowess

WESTFIELD >> A total of 1,218 student-athletes have been honored by the Massachuse­tts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Fall/winter 2022 All-academic team.

Student-athletes who compete in championsh­ip varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutio­ns during the course of the fall and winter 2022 athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible.

Track

Duo honored: Fitchburg State junior Makany Camara (Lowell) was named the Massachuse­tts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

She was second in the high jump (1.52 meters) at the Wesleyan Indoor Invite. The league also named FSU freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley) its men’s indoor track Rookie of the Week. He won the shot put (13.01 meters), while adding a seventhpla­ce toss (10.98 meters) in the weight throw.
