Men’s basketball team perfect at home

LOWELL >> Graduate student Allin Blunt (Crownsvill­e, Md.) posted a season-high 21 points to lead four doubledigi­t scorers and propel the Umass Lowell men’s basketball team to an 84-70 victory over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.

The River Hawks (22-7, 9-5 AE) continue to make history, remaining perfect at home and logging their programrec­ord ninth America East Conference win.

“This was a really good win on our home floor against a really good team,” said UML associate head xoach Louis Hinnant. “We’re both battling it out for playoff stakes.”

Senior Ayinde Hikim (Washington, D.C.) finished with 18 points and a teamhigh four assists. Graduate student Everette Hammond (Silver Spring, Md.) chipped in with 14 points, while junior Max Brooks added 10 and a team-best eight rebounds.

The River Hawks take their final regular-season road trip when they head to UMBC on Wednesday.

Women’s basketball

VESTAL, N.Y. — Four players scored double figures as Umass Lowell defeated the Binghamton Bearcats, 62-55. The River Hawks snap a sixgame losing skid.

Junior Jaini Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points for UML (3-21, 2-12 AE) and sophomore Ivory Finley (Minneapoli­s, Minn.) added 14 points, five rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Amaya Dowdy (Woonsocket, R.I.) and senior Jaliena Sanchez (Springfiel­d) each hit double figures, with 12 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Baseball

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Despite a strong start, the Umass Lowell baseball team fell 17-1 to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Senior Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) tallied one hit and scored one run for UML (0-2) while graduate student Gerry Siracusa (Kinnelon, N.J.) tallied one hit and one RBI on the afternoon. Junior Roddy Hernandez (Jersey City, N.J.) drew a walk in his first at-bat of the season.

Freshman Brian Foley (Milton) made his first collegiate start for the River Hawks throwing 3.0 innings with five strikeouts and eight hits allowed.

The series wraps up on Sunday afternoon at Founders Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
