A University of Michigan hockey player with more than 100 games of experience is transferring to Umass Lowell.

Forward Nick Granowicz will play for the River Hawks in the 2023-24 season as a graduate transfer after four seasons with the Wolverines.

A 6-foot-1, 174-pound skater who wore No. 71, Granowicz netted four goals and six assists in 36 games this past season as Michigan advanced to the Frozen Four. He saw action in all three of Michigan’s NCAA Tournament games. He scored in Michigan’s opening game, collecting the first goal in an 11-1 romp over Colgate.

He blocked a shot in a 2-1 overtime win over Penn State. In the Frozen Four, a 5-2 loss to eventual national champion Quinnipiac, he was credited with a shot on goal.

In 101 games at Michigan, he tallied 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points.

Granowicz is the third player to join Umass Lowell via the NCAA hockey portal. Also headed to Umass Lowell are goaltender Luke Pavicich, who played two seasons at Umass, and forward Alex Peterson, who played four seasons at Holy Cross.

A native of Macomb, Mich., Granowicz tallied a 32-27-59 line in 58 regular season games during his final season in the British Columbia Hockey League.

He made an impact in his freshman season at Michigan, netting the team’s only hat trick of the season when he accomplished the feat against Wisconsin.

Two UML skaters, forwards Brian Chambers (Arizona State) and Ryan Brushett (RPI), have found homes out of the transfer portal.

Still in the portal from UML are forwards Blake Wells and Nik Armstrong-kingkade, and goaltender Edvard Nordlund.
