GGM Autoworks moves to Dracut

DRACUT >> Benny Spinazzola was logging a lot of miles, driving from Derry, N.H., to his body shop in Everett. It was time for a change.

The East Boston native owned the shop, GGM Autoworks, in Everett for 12 years, even after he and his wife, Kaylin, moved their young family first to Tewksbury and then to Derry. Just as their family was growing, so was Benny’s business.

“The past few years, we started growing out of that location,” he said. “I wanted to stay around Everett, but the cost of renting was ridiculous.”

Then he heard a Pelham auto-body shop might be for sale. It wasn’t, but the owner of that shop said there was one down the street in Dracut that was.

Benny and Kaylin moved GGM Autoworks to 2125 Bridge St., former home of Holton Street Auto Body, earlier this year.

On April 27, Dracut Economic Development held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Dracut business owners, attended by Dracut officials, and family and friends of the Spinazzolas, including their four children, Tano, Luca, Mac and Ziva.

“We came and looked at this place on a Friday, and I said, ‘This is it. This is the place,’” Benny said. “I called my real-estate agent when I got home, and I told her I wanted it — that night.”

They had to wait over the weekend, but on Monday morning, Benny was there to make the deal.

GGM Autoworks does most auto-body work, including frame work, suspensions — “everything that’s involved when you’re in an accident,” Benny said.

There’s no easy way to get from Everett to Dracut, but Benny said some of his longtime customers still make the trip because they trust him to do the work. Others, however, are a little harder to convince.

“When I told my customers I was moving to Dracut, some of them were, like, ‘Dracut, where’s that?’ They think driving up here is like going on vacation.”
