Chelmsford claims MVC girls lacrosse title

Chelmsford High captured the Merrimack Valley Conference girls lacrosse championsh­ip Monday.

And the Lions did it in exciting fashion, nipping rival Central Catholic, 10-9, as Jill Martin netted four goals and an assist.

Taija Bell claimed two goals and two assists for CHS (14-3, 13-0 MVC), while Caitlin Walsh and Maggie Loeber both registered two goals to support the goaltendin­g of Madeline Dunbar, who made 10 saves. WESTFORD 19, ARLINGTON 9 >> Sophomore Kassidy Carmichael scored her 300th career point with five minutes left in the first half on an eight-meter shot for Westford.

Carmichael led the Ghosts with seven goals and six assists, Evie Weber had three goals and three assists, and Emma Chapman compiled three goals. Hannah Kennedy tallied two goals, while Lauren Smith, Leah Solari, Erin Keefe and Sophia Williams each had one goal. Ali Mammola played her best defensive game this season. Erin Blatt had eight saves. 9 >> Littleton edged Tyngsboro in the Central Mass. CMADA Class B quarterfin­als.

Tyngsboro’s Sydney Hannes netted five goals and two assists in the loss. She also earned three draw controls while causing a pair of turnovers. Lily Guthrie, Katie Guilmette, Bella Adams and Lil Gikas also scored for Tyngsboro. LOWELL 12, EVERETT 3 >> Mia Simuang and Jackie Peirce each scored three times, guiding the Red Raiders to a landslide victory.

The Lowell offense was further powered by a pair of goals from Annika Coulliard

and Alena Im. Diana Heung and Bella Goncalves also added to the attack. The steady defense of Princess Onyewe, Erin Asselin, Alanna Cohan, Jackie Peirce and Keanalee Fuentes was effective in holding off Everett’s advances.

Pelham 12, Bishop Brady 7: Taylor Galgay garnered a team-high four goals for Pelham (9-4).

The Pythons held the 8-2 lead at halftime fueled by a three-goal game by Hannah Deschene. Sophia Joncas and Ella Desimone each added a pair, with Kate Burke rounding out the attack. Goalie Addie Breault held the fort in making six saves.

Baseball

GR. LOWELL 10, MYSTIC VALLEY 0 >> Jake Torpey spun a no-hitter as Greater Lowell (10-7, 9-3) rolled.

Torpey stood tall on the hill, walking six, while fanning 10 in six innings . He also helped his own cause by ripping a pair of hits, including an RBI double. He was backed by a plethora of Greater Lowell hitters including Brendan Arseneault (double, three, RBI), A.J. Baia (three hits, RBI) and Nolan Stys (two hits, RBI). Dillon Pagliccia (double), Yan Rivera (RBI) and Maddox Bonilla (RBI) rounded out the offense.

Lowell Catholic 1, Dracut 0: Sean Mcnamara drove in the game-winning single in the sixth, as Lowell Catholic (11-7) pulled out the win.

Mcnamara was masterful on the mound, scattering two hits and no runs in seven strong innings, while striking out 17. He also added two hits, with the biggest coming off an infield single, plating Aidan Virella.

1 >> Sophomore pitcher Nolan Dawson helped out his own cause in going 2-for-3 with three RBI as Billerica (11-9) punched its ticket to the state tournament.

The Indians’ starting pitcher, Dawson earned the victory, allowing four hits over five strong innings. Senior captain Austin Brune laced a double and made a great play in the outfield. Junior captain Gus O’gara lined a triple and started a double play at short.

KEENE 4, ALVIRNE 1 >> Alvirne scratched out four hits, with Max Francisco accounting for the lone Broncos run. Sophomore starting pitcher Craig Pederson surrendere­d two earned runs off six hits and three walks, while fanning four in 4.2 innings of work.

ST. JOHN’S PREP 5, CENTRAL 2

The Raiders were handed a rare loss on the diamond in Lawrence as St. John’s Prep scored three runs in the top of the first to set the tone.

Sparking Central’s eighthit attack were Nathan Kearney (2-for-3), Charlie Antonopoul­os (2-for-3, RBI) and Alexander Iannessa (2for-3, RBI).

SOUHEGAN 7, PELHAM 4 >> Cole Garcia scored two runs, had three stolen bases and had a single in the seventh inning, but the Pythons came up short.

Zach James went 2-for-4 and delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning, while Cesar Martinez had a pinch-hit single in the sixth. 2>> Waltham pitcher Drew Anderson was impressive, holding the high-powered Lions hitless over the final six innings.

Braydon Gray went the distance for the Lions, giving up five runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts. Jack Keyo, Finn Ramseyer and Grant Engelhardt had the Lions’ hits. Chelmsford (145) will end the regular season Wednesday by taking on undefeated Westford.

Softball

Tewksbury 2, Woburn 0: Sam Ryan had the right stuff for Tewksbury, tossing a two-hit shutout, striking out 12, while also drilling a two-run homer.

Redmen slugger Sam Perkins enjoyed a multiple-hit afternoon, with Avery Dellapiana and Alyssa Adams also connecting with singles.

11, GREATER LOWELL 8 >> Ashley Mills laced three hits for Greater Lowell Tech. Sam Brady tripled, while Amaya Flood and Jasmine Rodriguez both doubled in the loss.

ARLINGTON CATHOLIC 6, LOWELL CATHOLIC 4 >> Mollie Miner lined a pair of hits for Lowell Catholic in a tough loss to AC. Amanda Grace and Molly Mcdermott each added a triple for the Crusaders.

CENTRAL 15, ARLINGTON 2

The Raiders continued their hot hitting as they scored five runs in the fifth and sixth in the fifth in the mercy rule-shortened fiveinning non-league game.

Central Catholic (18-1) remained red-hot behind the impressive hitting of Amelia Ovalles, who hammered a three-run home run in the first and then walloped a three-run homer in the fifth to end the game.

CATHOLIC 5 >> The Lancers earned the non-league victory as Alexis Martineau, Caitlin Lafontaine and Carly Smith combined for eight hits to lead the hitting parade.

Martineau earned the win on the mound, while Maddie Simmons worked two scoreless innings in relief. Melina Strickland was a standout behind the plate for the Lancers. TYNGSBORO 9, DRACUT 8 >> Sam Puma got the win in the circle for the Tigers, going 6.2 innings, striking out three and walking three on Tyngsboro’s Senior Day.

Izzi Shaffer went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Kiley Hogan went 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored three times. Sam Puma went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Also starring for Tyngsboro were Madi Mical (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Danielle Walburn (1-for-3, RBI) and Jenna Tumpney (1-for4, 2 RBI). 2 >> Chelmsford honored its seniors and the Lions responded with a five-inning non-league rout.

All seniors contribute­d to the offense. Pitcher Mikaya Alto was 2-for-4, Julia Williams was 2-for-3 with three runs, Didi Snider walked twice and scored two runs, and Sidney Schwartz was 3-for-4.

Boys volleyball

LOWELL 3, DRACUT 0 >> Ivan Kim helped lead the Red Raiders (18-1) to the MVC championsh­ip.

He was part of an impressive ensemble that won in straight sets 25-12, 25- 14, 25-20. Dennis Seng, Jamie Chea and Vitou Seng also shined in the victory.

Acton-boxboro 3, Ayer Shirley 0: Senior outside hitter Santiago Salazar had four kills for Ayer Shirley (411).

A-B won in straight sets 25-8, 25-14, 25-12. Junior setter and middle hitter David Batchelor had four blocks and two assists for Ayer Shirley.

REVERE 3, GR. LOWELL 0 >> The Gryphons dropped the non-league clash as Revere’s Christian Berger dished out 28 assists.

CHELMSFORD 3, CENTRAL 1

The Lions prevailed in a hard-fought match over the Raiders, 30-32, 25-17, 25-11, 25-15.

Danilo Nunes produced the game-winning kill, Victor Lam dished out 40 assists, and Jaydon Som compiled 15 digs and five aces for the winners. Also starring for Chelmsford were Jack Macphee (12 digs), Dom Flores (18 kills, 18 digs), Zach Spengler (22 digs, 3 aces) and Liam Quinn (13 kills).

Starring for Central Catholic (3-17) were Luke Reller with 16 service points and an ace, Michael Nguyen with 25 assists and Jaithian Medina with nine kills. LOWELL CATHOLIC 3, GR. LAWRENCE 0 >> The Crusaders rolled to a 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 victory.

Boys lacrosse

CHELMSFORD 8, CENTRAL 7

The hosts Lions scored in overtime to earn a thrilling MVC victory.

For Central Catholic, Sean Gray and Ryan Tighe both netted two goals. Also scoring goals were Easton Morse, Conor Shanahan and Luke Faletra. Mikey Ryan dished out two assists and Jake Lydon finished with 12 saves.

Girls tennis

TYNGSBORO 3, QUABBIN 2

Senior tri-captain Atena Jasim led the way at first singles 6-0, 6-1, as the Tigers clinched the Mid-wach quarterfin­al win.

Senior tri-captain Ginelle Cote also excelled at second singles 6-1, 6-1, with first doubles team Catlin Hilterman and Kayla Moro sealing the deal with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Senior tri-captain Meshwa Patel fell at third singles 6-1, 6-2, with second doubles team Amelia Johnson and Lila Kilmon also falling short 6-2, 6-3. HAVERHILL 3, LOWELL 2 >> The Red Raiders held its own in doubles play, winning two three-set matches for Lowell (2-14).

The first doubles unit of Audrey Djatcha and Erin NJI earned the 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win. Meanwhile, the second doubles tandem of Natalie Sandler and Dana Sek secured a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) victory.

CENTRAL 3, N. ANDOVER 2 >> The Raiders continued their strong play with a narrow MVC victory as Kayleigh Furbush (6-4, 6-1) and Meg Washburn (6-1, 2-6, 7-6) won at No. 1 and 2 singles, respective­ly.

The No. 2 doubles team of Melina Panagiotak­opoulos/ella Gregorio was a 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 winner for Central (9-3).

TEWKSBURY 4, NDA 1 >> The Redmen defeated the Academy of Notre Dame. Ainsley Flood won for NDA over Renuka Late, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. But Chloe Burns (6-0, 6-1 over Gabby Aboagye-bejou) and Giana Doiron (6-3, 6-1 over Macklyn Pacaro) won for Tewksbury.

The doubles teams of Ceceila Ho/darya Mehrabani (6-0, 6-0) and Molly Macdonald/reilly Williams (63, 6-3) were victorious for THS.

Co-ed tennis

MYSTIC VALLEY 7, NASHOBA 0

The Vikings were blanked by a powerful Mystic Valley (12-1, 11-1 CAC) squad in CAC action in its final regular-season match.

Arthur Hargett of Nashoba Tech put up a strong battle at No. 2 singles before falling 10-8.

Track

TIGERS ROAR >> A pair of Tyngsboro athletes finished fourth at the South Shore Twilight Invitation­al on Saturday in Norwell.

Senior Paige Patnaude finished fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 91 feet, eight points, scoring the only points on the girls team. She was also 32nd in the shot put. Freshman Isabella Duarte finished 14th in the seeded mile in 5:46.56.

On the boys side, freshman Christian Riley took fourth in the 110 high hurdles, running a 16.17 in the pouring rain. The 4×800 team of eighth-grader Ethan Levesque, senior Jack Gramer, senior Colin Riley and freshman Tyler Murray was ninth in 9:14.55. CRUSADERS SHINE >> Georgia Brooks led the Grotonduns­table contigent at the South Shore Twilight Invitation­al.

Brooks finished second in the two mile in 11:33.06. Meghan Mceleney- placed seventh in the 400 in 1:02.03. On the boys side, Neil Aradhya was third in the mile in 4:31.6, Zak Metzger took fifth in the mile in 4:33.18 and Xander Crouse captured seventh in the javelin (129-08).
