GROTON - Alice Fielding Moulton Macgregor died on May 20, 2023 at the age of 97 surrounded by her family. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the daughter of George Fielding and Mary O’connor Fielding. Alice was a graduate of St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg and moved to Groton immediately after high school at age 17.
During WWII Alice lived at the Groton Inn and worked as a telephone operator at Fort Devens. It was during this time that she met and married her husband, Frederick Henry Moulton. They had three children and a loving marriage until Fred’s early death.
Alice worked for 30 years at the Groton Post Office in its original location on Main Street.
Known and loved by almost everyone in town, she reveled in working the window dressed in costumes on Halloween and Christmas and considered it her duty to pass tiny boxes of raisins through the mail slot to the children who accompanied their parents into the Post Office lobby.
After her retirement from the Post Office, Alice spent her winters in Yuma, Arizona, and traveled the world with her friends.
Alice leaves behind her only daughter, Nancy Moulton Webber and her husband Steven of Groton and Naples, Florida, and her only remaining son, Stephen Moulton and his wife April of Groton and Yuma, Arizona. She lost her first husband, Fred Moulton, in 1965 and their son, Dennis Moulton, in 1970. She is also predeceased by her second husband Robert A. Macgregor, and her long-time companion George Sanderson. She outlived all three of her siblings: Marylou Erickson of Lunenburg and Florida, John Fielding of Townsend and Arizona, and Ann Walsh of Groton. She is survived by 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-greatgrandchildren.
A visiting hour will be held in the Mcgaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Friday, May 26th from 10
– 11 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Parish worshiping at St. James Church, 13 St. James Ave., West Groton, MA at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Groton Cemetery.
