Glavine named top CAA coach for fourth time
BOSTON >> For the fourth time in his career, Northeastern University skipper Mike Glavine has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Coach of the Year after accumulating a program-best 41 wins, and 20 in CAA play.
Glavine is a Billerica native.
His Huskies have had one of the best seasons in program history, shattering the previous single-season wins record, single-season home run record, and the firstever Top 25 Ranking in the modern era.
The Huskies went a perfect 4-0 against Top-25 teams, 7-0 against Top-50 RPI teams, and hold several statistical ranks in the top 25 of the NCAA, including stolen bases (130, 6thmost in the NCAA) and ERA (3.24, 2nd-best in the NCAA). Glavine, a former Billerica High star, previously won the award in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
Glavine is the brother of
Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Tom Glavine.
Moran, Desrochers honored
FRAMINGHAM — Framingham State softball players Ally Moran and Camille Desrochers have been selected for the NFCA Region 2 All Region Team.
Moran, a junior pitcher from Wilmington, was the Rams’ ace. She went 22-6 en route to picking up several awards. Moran fashioned a 1.37 earned run average and struck out 105 in 148.1 innings. She made 23 starts and 30 appearances.
Desrochers, a graduate student shortstop from Westford, led Framingham State with a .399 batting average. The former Westford Academy star led the Rams with a .494 on-base percentage.
Desrochers also put up big numbers with 35 runs (3rd on team), 57 hits (tied for second) and 35 RBI (second).
Bourassa recognized
FITCHBURG — Fitchburg State freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley) was recently selected the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Rookie and Field Athlete of the Week.
The first-year Falcon picks up his sixth and seventh weekly honors on the season after finishing second overall in the javelin with a throw of 60.50 meters at the MIT Last Chance qualifier on Thursday.
