SALISBURY - Frieda R. (Nicosia) Makarewicz, formerly of Lawrence and Salisbury, MA, left to go to her eternal home to meet the Lord on Wednesday, May

24, 2023, after a brave battle with lymphoma. Born in Lawrence, MA on September 10, 1935 to the late Joseph and Grace (Germana) Nicosia, she was the wife of the late Thadeus (Ted) Makarewicz, who was the love of her life.

A graduate of Holy Rosary Grammar School, Lawrence High School Class of 1953, and Mcintosh Business School, Frieda attended Holy Rosary Shrine, where she was a member of St. Rita Sodality. She was also a member of the Star of the Sea Church in Salisbury, MA. In later years, she enjoyed watching Sunday Mass on television from St. Francis Church in Dracut. Frieda’s faith in God was the most important part of her life, and she was the godmother to many family members.

Frieda was employed by Avco for five years where she met her beloved husband Ted. She worked at First Essex Savings Bank, where she was a loan officer. She was a past president of Credit Women International. She enjoyed crafts, loved dancing, playing the piano and organ, and especially enjoyed cooking for her family on the holidays. She was also known for baking traditional Italian cookies. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends.

Frieda is survived by her son, Mark and his wife Joan E. (Pomerleau) of Dracut, MA; grandchildren, Melissa Sue Makarewicz and her fiancé Paul Ouellette of Dracut MA, Mark Makarewicz, Jr. and his wife Sarah (Vance) of Bedford, NH, and Nicholas Makarewicz of Dracut, MA; great-grandchildren, Sadie Elizabeth Makarewicz and Owen John Makarewicz; sisterin-law, Shirley Kirk; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Frieda was predeceased by her brothers, Carl, Domenic, and Angelo Nicosia; and her sisters, Mary Paolino and Rose Grasso.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from Tufts Medicine Care at Home and High Pointe House in Haverhill for the exceptional level of care and support so lovingly and compassionately provided during Frieda’s illness.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, May

31, 2023, between 4:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen, MA.
