BERGERON AND JOSEPH COLLECT NO. 1 SEEDS
State's best will shine in Fitchburg at Meet of Champions
LOWELL — Two local athletes are top seeds for events at the Meet of Champions, a two-day competition which will bring together the state’s top high school track athletes to Fitchburg State University.
The Meet of Champions will be held Thursday and Saturday.
Junior Paul Bergeron of Westford Academy is the No. 1 seed in the boys two mile. His time of 8:51.88 is nine seconds faster than the next qualifier.
On the girls side, Billerica sophomore Nyrah Joseph is the top seed in the triple jump (38 feet, 0.25 inches).
Boys
Theo Puterbaugh of Parker Charter is the No. 2 seed in the shot put with a heave of 62-03 and he’s ranked third entering the discus (162-06).
In the pole vault, Littleton junior Mubeshire
Bradshaw is the fourth seed (13-0), while Tewksbury senior Ryan Cuvier is ranked fourth in the high jump (6-6).
Billerica’s Ryan Leslie has enjoyed a strong spring. The junior is the No. 5 seed in the two mile (9:09.52) in a talented and competitive field. He’s also the No. 6 seed in the mile (4:19.18). Another talented runner, Westford senior Austin Desisto, is ranked fifth entering the 800 (1:54.29).
Also seeded fifth is Tewksbury senior Alex Arbogast, who’s coming off a terrific weekend. Arbogast is one of the favorites in the 100-meter dash (10.74).
Lowell sophomore Khai Yin is the sixth seed in the 110 hurdles in 14.88, while Lowell is seeded sixth in the 4×800 relay (8:00.18).
Also seeded in the top 10 are Chelmsford freshman Gable Gray in the javelin (8th, 17001), Littleton junior Timothy Rank in the mile (9th, 4:20.60) and Littleton junior Tyler Castillo in the 100 (10th, 10.96).
Girls
In addition to Joseph, who’s also seeded third in the pentathlon (3,035), big things are expected of Lowell senior Ronnie Jones, the No. 2 seed in the discus (127-09) and No. 4 seed in the shot put (42-0).
In the javelin, Littleton junior Norah Kobaly is seeded second (133-06), while Lowell senior Pearl Kalungi is seeded sixth (126-0) in the event.
Tewksbury senior Jayani Santos is a dual threat. She’s ranked fifth in the 200 (25.20) and seventh in the 400 (59.69). Billerica senior Anna Mcelhinney is the No. 5 seed in a deep mile field (5:01.94).
Also seeded highly are the Tewksbury 4×100 relay team (6th, 49.45), Westford freshman Abby Hennessy in the 800 (7th, 2:16.54) and Billerica’s 4×800 relay team (8th, 9:42.76).
Seeded 10th are Billerica junior Briana Phelan in the 400 hurdles (1:05.84), Lowell senior Annamaria Mbuyu in the triple jump (36-08.75) and Westford junior Alin Aydogan in the pentathlon (2,507).
