3 Lowell Catholic teams bounced from tourney
Friday offered crazy weather late afternoon and into the evening as heavy thunderstorms produced buckets of rain.
It was also a dreary day for Lowell Catholic teams in the state tournament. All three Crusader teams were eliminated.
In boys volleyball, No. 29 LC (11-2) fell 3-0 to No. 4 Milford (14-6) in a Division 2 preliminary round meeting. In softball, No. 24 Lowell Catholic (10-7) dropped a 5-2 decision at ninthseeded Bishop Fenwick (137) in Peabody in a Division 3 round of 32 encounter.
In boys lacrosse, the 33rd-seeded Crusaders (77) were ousted following an 11-2 road defeat to No. 32 Bishop Stang (13-4) in a Division 3 preliminary game.
Softball
HOOSAC 13, NT 3 >> Nashoba Tech was eliminated on the road during a Div. 5 preliminary round game at Hoosac Valley.
The Westford school, the No. 38 seed, finished 10-11. No. 27 Hoosac (9-12) advances.
Baseball
Thomas White of Phillips Academy was named the 2022-23 Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound senior left-handed pitcher led the Big Blues to a 13-6 record and the Central New England Prep School Baseball League semifinals. White posted a 5-2 record on the mound with a 1.66 earned run average, striking out 95 batters and allowing just 10 hits in 42 innings. Also the 2021-22 Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year, the Vanderbilt-bound White is ranked the No. 4 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Perfect Game and the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2023 MLB Draft class, according to Baseball America.

In baseball, No. 35 Greater Lowell Tech (10-8) will play at No. 30 Dightonrehoboth (9-11) in a Div. 3 prelim at noon.
In boys lacrosse, in Div. 3 round of 32 action, No. 25 Wilmington (6-11) will visit No. 8 Pope Francis (13-3) at 11 a.m., while No. 6 Dracut will entertain No. 27 Swampscott (8-10) at 4 p.m. In a New Hampshire quarterfinal, No. 3 Pelham will host No. 6 Laconia at 5 p.m.
In girls tennis, No. 18 Wilmington (4-13) will travel to No. 15 Foxboro (117) for a Div. 3 round of 32 match at 4:15 p.m.
In boys volleyball, No. 20 North Middlesex (14-3) will play at No. 13 North Andover (15-5) in a Div. 1 round of 32 clash at 5 p.m.
In girls lacrosse, No. 22 Shawsheen Tech (10-6) will play at No. 11 Fairhaven (135) in a Div. 3 round of 32 contest at 10 a.m.

Five local teams are scheduled to be in action Sunday.
In boys lacrosse, No. 9 Groton-dunstable (14-4) will host No. 24 Dightonrehoboth (9-6) in a Div. 3 round of 32 game at 2:30 p.m.
In girls lacrosse, Greater Lowell Tech and Nashoba Tech are slated to play preliminary round games. In Division 3, No. 31 Greater Lowell (9-7) will entertain No. 34 Bristol-plymouth (97) in Tyngsboro at 11 a.m. In Division 4, No. 37 Nashoba Tech (8-7) will travel to No. 28 Stoneham (5-13) at 11 a.m.
In baseball, No. 14 Tyngsboro (10-10) will host Hampshire Regional (15-5) in a Div. 4 round of 32 game at 3 p.m.
In softball, in a Div. 4 round of 32 meeting, No. 4 Tyngsboro (14-4) will host No. 27 Quabbin at 2 p.m.
Youth baseball
Shedd Arizona Wildcats shortstop Lilac Iverson executed a rare unassisted triple play on Tuesday, against the Chelmsford U10 Tigers, at Mcpherson Park in Lowell.
The 10-year-old infielder snagged a line drive, before tagging out a pair of advancing Chelmsford baserunners in the top of the third inning. The Wildcats went on to lose the game 14-8. Iverson is a fourth grader at Pyne Arts Magnet School.
Coached by Bethany Peters, the Shedd Arizona Wildcats are part of the new citywide Lowell Youth Baseball and Softball League.
College baseball
Fitchburg State baseball senior catcher Vinny Eramo (Shirley) was recently selected to participate in the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-star Game at Dunkin Donuts Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats, in Hartford, Conn., with the game to be played on Monday at noon.
This season, Eramo batted .395 with 58 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 37 runs scored, 55 RBI, 18 walks and 13 steals for the Green and Gold, while rewriting the Falcons record books in the process as the senior catcher set single-season program record for home runs (12), RBI (55) and total bases (109), as well as setting the Falcons’ career record for home runs (22) and total bases (280).
