Gertrude J. Flood
Formerly of Lowell
HOPKINSVILLE - Gertrude J. Sullivan “Sully” Flood, 102, of Hopkinsville, KY and formerly of Lowell, MA died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family.
A native of Malden, MA she was born June 5, 1920 the daughter of the late David F. Sullivan and Gertrude J. Miniter Sullivan. She was active in 4-H and Girl Scouts, having achieved the rank of Golden Eagle Scout. Gertrude graduated from Chelmsford High School and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She was a Registered Nurse, working for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital then with Dr. Raymond Capers for nearly 30 years.
She was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Hopkinsville, KY where she served as a lector, volunteered at the St. Peter and Paul Thrift Store and as Team Captain of the 2 o’clock Holy Hour Adoration.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Edward
Flood, Sr. who died November 26, 1992; her son: Thomas Edward Flood, Jr. who died November 29, 2001; and her sister: Pauline Mahony who died in 2007; and her brothers/sisters in law: Patrick Henry (Ellen) Flood, Helen (C. Emmett) Byrne, Jack (Sharon) Flood and Mary (Edward) Vinton.
Survivors include her daughter: Sheila (Thomas) O’hagan of Hopkinsville, KY; her brothers: David Sullivan of Sequim, WA and Robert Sullivan of Middletown, RI; her three grandchildren: Patrick Thomas (April Peterson) O’hagan of Salt Lake City, UT, Kathleen (Ryan) Schenk of Evansville, IN, and Lisa (Brian) Cooper of Elk Grove, CA; and three great grandchildren: Aedan O’hagan, Conner Schenk, and Nicholas Cooper. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
