Shawsheen opens season with win over Gr. Lowell

The Shawsheen Tech boys basketball team opened the 2023-24 season Friday with a 60-46 victory over Greater Lowell Tech in Tyngsboro.

Junior Franck Moron led the Rams with 18 points, while junior Matt Breen produced a 13-point, 13-rebound double double. Senior Ryan Copson had a fine all-around game with nine points, six assists and five steals.

Danny Luna had 11 points while Alex Ayim netted 10 points for the host Gryphons.

Girls basketball

NASHOBA 49, GR. LAWRENCE 39 >> Nashoba Tech won its season opener on the road as Sadie Tracy netted 17 points.

Ashley Hart also scored in double figures for the Vikings with 13 points. Rachel Targ added eight points and Destanee Soba played strong defense. TYNGSBORO 57, NM 16 >> The Tigers easily captured the season-opening victory over North Middlesex as Gianna Donato led the way with 13 points.

Katie O’keefe tallied 12 points, while Carly Dimento poured in nine points. Tyngsboro led 21-1 after one quarter and 34-6 at halftime.

LYNN TECH 52, INNOVATION 28 >> Innovation Academy dropped its season opener despite a strong game from Alex Butters.

Butters registered nine points and nine rebounds, while Addison Kott claimed six points and five rebounds. Emily Garcia contribute­d five points and six rebounds.

Boys swimming

CHS 97, NEWTON NORTH 84

The Lions captured the non-league meet with five individual­s winning events and two relay victories.

Freshmen Christain Petrilli (200 free) and Sean Boothroyd (500 free) had a huge first meet for the Lions with their first varsity wins. Seniors Jociah Kautz (100 backstroke) and Henry Reitman (50 free) also touched first for Chelmsford.

Junior Hadi Aldayaa led Chelmsford with a sweep in 1-meter diving followed by seniors Tyler Gentry and Luke Boucher. The 200 medley relay team of

Kautz, senior Krish Patel, senior captain Aron Kerkhove and Reitman took home first, as did the 400 free relay team of Petrilli, senior captain Nate Gabriel, Kautz and Reitman.
