Balanced scoring attack fuels Tyngsboro win

A balanced scoring attack — four players reached double figures — powered the Tyngsboro High boys basketball team to a 61-48 victory over visiting Littleton on Tuesday night.

Tyngsboro led 23-20 at halftime. The leading scorers for the Tigers were TJ Bradford with 16 points, Ryan Wall with 15, Joe Nicosia with 14 and Gavin Familia with 11.

For Littleton, Liam Smith registered 14 points and Miles Blaine was also in double digits with 11. Jason Mansour chipped in with eight points, and Evan Manno and Ranit Sanha had five each. CENTRAL 61, LOWELL 56 >> In a heavyweigh­t battle between longtime MVC rivals, the Raiders were nipped by Central Catholic.

Shining again for Lowell was Tzar Powell-aparicio, who collected 19 points and 10 rebounds. Juan Beltres Diaz rang up 14 points, while Jason Kamau finished with eight points.

NDA 82, INNOVATION 68 >> In a battle of Tyngsboro, the Academy of Notre Dame edged Innovation Academy. The Lancers led 17-9 after one quarter, 33-31 at halftime and 6449 after three quarters.

Innovation (6-5) was paced by Jayden Ogbeide, who netted 25 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Derrick Twum continued his fine season with 21 points and seven rebounds, and Ayden Rogers compiled 11 points and five rebounds. PELHAM 78, JOHN STARK 45 >> Dom Herrling poured in 17 points to power the Pythons to their latest NHIAA Div. 2 win.

Pelham (9-3, 8-1 league) scored 27 points in the first quarter and 25 in the second to take control. Zach James continues to surge toward 1,000 career points with a 15-point effort. Adding 12 points apiece were Logan Dumont and Brady Hegan. Dumont ripped down 14 rebounds, while Hegan had 11.

ALGONQUIN 55, WESTFORD 54 >> In a non-league barnburner, the Ghosts were nipped by Algonquin Regional.

GARDNER 53, AYER-SHIRLEY 46 >> The visiting Panthers roared out to a 10-4 lead after one quarter, but Gardner rallied to post the Midwach win.

Ayer-shirley’s Zach Iannacone led all scorers with a 25-point effort, while Tommy Bergin netted 10 points for the Panthers (9-3). TEWKSBURY 52, DRACUT 45 >> The Redmen repeatedly held off Dracut to post the MVC conquest before their home fans.

Luke Montejo played a huge role in Tewksbury’s victory with a team-high 18 points. Kyle Cummings was also an offensive catalyst with 15 points. Tewksbury led 28-22 at halftime.

LAWRENCE 73, CHELMSFORD 50 >> The Lions weren’t able to silence Lawrence’s high-powered offense during the MVC clash in Lawrence.

Girls basketball

PROSPECT HILL 65, IA 35 >> Innovation Academy saw double trouble in the non-league loss as Prospect Hill (11-2) twin sisters Jordan St. Germain and Brenna St. Germain combined for 44 points.

For Innovation (3-7), eighthgrad­er Sydney Tighe led the way with nine points and two rebounds. Eighth-grader Grace Logan added six points. Senior Captain Alex Butter grabbed 12 rebounds and chipped in with five points. MYSTIC VALLEY 30, LC 25 >> The visiting Lowell Catholic Crusaders dropped a physical CAC Large battle in Malden.

Janae Holmes led LC with nine points, and Rylie Hogan and Meredith Morey chipped in with four each. Avery Tucker, Miley Lopez and Makayla Alexander played well on defense for LC (5-6, 3-2 league). READING 45, WILMINGTON 41 >> The Wildcats dropped a tough Middlesex League decision on their home court. Reading’s Molly Trahan netted 23 points.

CENTRAL 45, LOWELL 17 >> Host Lowell played Central Catholic tough in the first half, trailing only 1712, when the Raiders exploded for 14-point quarters in the third and fourth to pull away.

Central (10-3), which surpassed its win total from last season and qualified for the state tournament, received strong play from Aniela Kwo with 12 points and seven rebounds. Abby Yfantopulo­s had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Addison Beers starred defensivel­y and had three steals and three assists.

Lowell received six points from Quinn Mcdonald and five from Keanalee Fuentes.

GLT 49, NORTHEAST 37 >> Greater Lowell Tech led 20-17 at halftime and surged ahead thanks to a 13-4 third quarter.

Mariah Lorenzo led the offense with 10 points, while Kat Muangvong added eight points and Lapoorsha Moses netted seven. Leanne Kim was outstandin­g for the Gryphons (4-6, 2-4 CAC Large). TYNGSBORO 61, LITTLETON 55 >> In a hard-fought battle of Mid-wach powers, Tyngsboro (10-1) edged their fellow Tigers.

Tyngsboro received an outstandin­g 33-point performanc­e from Gianna Donato, who drained six 3-pointers and hauled in seven rebounds. Carly Dimento contribute­d 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Lillian Gikas earned five rebounds for the winners.

For Littleton 8-2), the scoring parade was led by Becca Fusco (17 points), Olivia Olson (13), Katherine Anjoorian (11) and Victoria Mccoy (10).

CHELMSFORD 68, LAWRENCE 33 >> The Lions received double-figure scoring from three players in posting the MVC win.

Bridget Trainor led a balanced attack with 14 points, while Julia Haverty added 13 and Mary Keohane 11 for the Lions (7-5).

KIPP 52, NASHOBA TECH 45 >> The Vikings (3-5) were nipped by KIPP in a close battle.

Sadie Tracy led the Westford school with 15 points. Rachael Targ added nine points, while Ashley Hart produced eight points for the Vikings (3-5).

WESTBORO 53, NORTH MIDDLESEX 39 >> The Patriots trailed 14-7 after one quarter and never recovered during Mid-wach play in Westboro.

Playing an outstandin­g game and leading North Middlesex (28) in scoring with 18 points was Norah Tesini.

GARDNER 50, AYER-SHIRLEY 42 >> Visiting Ayer-shirley played Gardner to a standstill in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. Scoring a team-high 15 points for the Panthers (7-7) was Ava Murphy.

Boys swimming

CHELMSFORD 101, MELROSE 81 >> On Senior Night, Chelmsford came away with a win over a talented and competitiv­e Melrose team.

The Lions received individual wins from junior Hadi Aldayaa (dive), freshman Christian Petrilli (500 free, made North Sectional cut) and senior Jociah Kautz (100 backstroke). The 200 free relay team of junior Jack Latham, junior Jason Dou, senior captain Nate Gabriel and senior Henry Reitman won, as as well as the 400 free relay team of Dou, Petrilli, Kautz and Reitman.

Chelmsford (8-2) grabbed 10 of 12 second-place finishes. Dou (200 free, Kautz (200 IM), Reitman (50 free), senior Tyler Gentry (dive), Gabriel (100 free), freshman Sean Boothroyd (500 free) and senior Krish Patel were all second.

Boys hockey

WESTBORO 4, NM 2 >> Despite a twogoal performanc­e by Sean Myers, North Middlesex was defeated at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg.

Both of NM’S goals were set up by Max Caliri. Assisting on one goal each for the Patriots (6-6) were Brady Lavery and Braden Amidon.

Girls hockey

BOSTON LATIN 3, CENTRAL 0 >> Sophomore Goalie Sydney Foster made 30 saves in the losing effort against Boston Latin. Central played tough throughout as Boston Latin didn’t net its third goal until 2:08 remained in the game.

Girls gymnastics

METHUEN 138.05, DRACUT 115.5 >> The Middies were defeated by the Rangers during a Merrimack Valley Conference meet.

College lacrosse

UML WELCOMES NEWCOMERS >> Head coach Lisa Miller has announced the addition of 13 newcomers to the Umass Lowell women’s lacrosse roster for the upcoming 2024 campaign.

“I’m looking forward to getting this competitiv­e newcomer group on the field this spring,” said Miller. “They will contribute in every area of the game and have demonstrat­ed a willingnes­s to work hard and implement feedback immediatel­y. Looking forward to big things from the collective group.”

The incoming class features one transfer, sophomore defender Broghan Laundry (Swampscott).
