HUDSON, N.H. >> Mickey’s N.Y. Pizza was open for service on Wednesday afternoon when an SUV went off the road and crashed into the restaurant, leaving behind a gaping hole.

The operator of the 2018 Buick Encore that struck the building was hospitalized, while those inside the restaurant escaped unscathed, according to the Hudson Police.

Police and firefighters were called to the restaurant, located at 94 Lowell Road, for reports of a single-vehicle crash into a building at about 1:40 p.m. On scene, first responders found the SUV stuck inside the northern side of the restaurant. The driver was still trapped inside the vehicle.

Hudson firefighters were eventually able to free the 82-year-old driver, identified by police as Helen Gosselin, of Hudson. Gosselin was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

A preliminary investigation determined Gosselin was driving the SUV south on Lowell Road when she lost control and crossed to the east of the road. The vehicle then struck the restaurant.

Police said Gosselin was transported by ambulance to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, N.H. for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Photos of the crash showed the vehicle passed over a plot of land — displayed by the tire tracks left behind in the snow — over a sidewalk, through some foliage, before smashing through the side of the building. More than half of the SUV crashed through the restaurant’s wall. The vehicle narrowly missed an attached deck on its route to the impact site.

Police said the restaurant is currently closed for structural reasons.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Hudson Police Officer Leandro Sosa at 603-886-6011.
