Lowell - Kyriakoula (Nicolakaki­s) Vergados, 100, passed away at her home on January 31, 2024 surrounded by her beloved husband and her children after a long illness.

Kyriakoula was born August

17, 1923 in Vergadeika, Greece, the daughter of the late Elias and Demetra (Rassias) Nicolakaki­s. She emigrated to the United States with her family in 1957 settling in Lowell where she became a long-time resident.

Kyriakoula lived a life of love above all. She exuded wisdom, compassion, and empathy for every person whose life she touched. She was a devout member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell.

Kyriakoula leaves behind her devoted husband of 74 years, Vasilios Vergados, her daughters, Panagiota Xifaras (husband Stamatis) of Andover, Victoria Vergados of Andover, Nickie Hantzis of Carlisle, and her son, Nicholas Vergados of Lowell.

She leaves eleven grandchild­ren: Irene Theodore and her husband Michael, George Xifaras and his wife Eleni, Demetra Gildea and her husband Brian, Byron Chiungos and his wife Nima, Dean Chiungos and his wife Beth, Dean Hantzis, Vasilios Hantzis and his wife Brianne, Peter Hantzis and his wife Ashley, Vasilios Vergados, Costas Vergados, and Kyros Vergados. She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchild­ren.

Kyriakoula is survived by her sister, Anna Calavritin­os of Lowell, her brother Evangelos Nicolakaki­s of Sparta, Greece, her sister-in-law Tasia Nicolakaki­s of Andover, her brother-in-law Athanasios Arvanitis (wife Angeliki), and two sisters-in-law, Vasiliki Papaconsta­ntinou and Hariklia Kofitsas (husband Markos). She was predecease­d by her brothers, George, Nicholas, John, and Demetrios Nicolakaki­s.

Kyriakoula is also survived and blessed with many nieces, nephews, and extended family all of whom loved her and will miss her deeply.

St. Lowell on Monday, February 5th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 6th at 10:00 at the Funeral Home followed by her service at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell at 11:00 am.
