SALEM >> Sid Tildsley didn’t let the first fall of his high school career get the best of him.

The Shawsheen Tech wrestler managed to shake it off, pulling out a dramatic come-from-behind victory to win his third consecutive All-state title. He won 8-6 in overtime over Milford’s Michael Boulanger on Saturday at Salem High School.

“It was a very tough overtime match,” said Tildsley. “But it’s always good to get the win in the end.”

Locked in a stalemate heading into the fourth stanza, Tildsley scored an aggressive leg takedown to earn the win.

“I like to shoot first,” said Tildsley. “I took a shot and he let his guard down. I capitalized on it.”

It seemed like business as usual for the junior after scoring a big takedown 1:30 into second period, but his opponent was equal to the task, executing an escape and takedown to take the 3-2 lead. Undaunted, Tildsley applied a nifty reverse to tie the match by the end of the second.

The pair continued to battle in the third, with Boulanger tying the match in the final 10 seconds to force the overtime.

“That was probably my toughest match this year,” said Tildsley, who pinned Matthew Patterson of Middleboro at 2:50 in the semifinals. “I haven’t been taken down all year, it was my first time, obviously I realized that was tough, but with hard work and dedication from my coaches it paid off.”

Meanwhile, brother James Tildsley (144) took down Aiden Baum of Milford in a 5-0 decision for the title. James held his opponent at arms length taking an early 3-0 lead, and never looked

back.

The brothers were among 10 local wrestlers who made it to the finals, with five taking top honors, including one female.

Chelmsford heavyweight Thomas Brown (285) stymied St. John’s Prep’s Alex Bajoras, 9-1. Brown perplexed his opponent with pair of leg sweeps in the first and second periods, holding a 4-0 lead. And even with Bajoras on his back, Brown dispatched his opponent with a flip, grabbing a 7-0 advantage en route to the win.

“It feels great,” said Brown, who beat the SJP heavyweight 1-0 at last week’s state finals. “I worked hard all week, because I knew he was going to come out firing. I had to stay on my game and not let him get into my head. I have a ton of respect for Alex. I’ve been wrestling him my whole life.”

Brown defeated Brookline’s Gabriel Thomas, 8-0, in the semifinals.

Billerica’s Peter Rincan (120) clipped Charlie Lussier of Whitman Hanson, 4-0, in the title match. Rincan took control with an early takedown, while maintaining some second period momentum, not allowing his opponent room to breathe. Lussier attempted a stage a comeback, but was unable to against Rincan’s press. Rincan scored a major decision over Jason Ballou of Andover, 14-2, in the semifinals.

In other action, Greater Lowell grappler Antoine Jackman (106) was edged by Central Catholic’s Cole Glynn, 4-2, in a rubber match. After a scoreless first period, Glynn broke free from Jackman’s

clutches to take a 3-0 lead in the second. Jackman managed to cut the deficit with a third period headlock, but was unable to fully regain momentum.

Jackman had previously defeated Glynn two weeks ago, 6-5, in the Division 1 North Sectional, but lost to him, 1-0, in the D1 State final rematch. Jackman defeated top-ranked Devon Mateo of West Springfield, 10-9, in the semifinals.

Tewksbury’s Nick Desisto (113) was tripped up by Methuen’s Dominic Gangi in a 1-0 decision in the title match. Gangi scored the lone point of the match off a a second-period escape and held on for the win. Desisto defeated Michael Morris of Haverhill, 8-7, in the semifinals.

Emmett Logan (126) lost to old nemesis Yandel Morales of Andover, 5-3, in the championship match. Logan had previously lost to Morales in the state and sectional finals.

The Lowell High sophomore took a 1-0 lead off a

second period escape, but Morales bounced back to grab a 2-1 edge. Logan continued to chip away, tying the match off another escape in the second, leaving things deadlocked heading into the third. But a big third-period takedown by Morales in the third seemed to carry him to the victory. Logan dropped Dylan Kadish of Newton, 7-1, in the semifinals.

In the girls bracket, Wilmington’s Hannah Bryson (126) earned a 11-0 landslide over Arlington’s Kamila Vizcinesk to win the title. Bryson never seemed in any real danger, holding a commanding 4-0 lead by the second period, and 6-0 advantage by the third. She also pinned Daniela Garcia of Lawrence in the semifinals.

Lowell finalist Amada Moundele (165) lost to Sharon’s Meghan Wiebe of Sharon, 2-0. Red Raider Amelyiah Martinez (235) also succumbed to Samantha Rabkin, 10-7. The Lowell girls earned the team title with 52 points.
