Tyngsboro makes the Final Four
The Tyngsboro High girls basketball team continued to feast at home.
On Saturday, in a Division 4 round of 8 game, the Tigers took care of business on their home court, defeating a strong Bourne squad In a thrilling matchup, 45-42.
No. 2 Tyngsboro (22-1) advances after being taken to the limit by No. 7 Bourne (20-3).
Tyngsboro received a bye and then defeated Mystic Valley, 63-16, and Georgetown, 62-45, to advance to face Bourne.
SC 59, CENTRAL 40 >> Central Catholic had its season ended at No. 3 Springfield Central during a Division 1 round of 8 game in Springfield.
The hosts outscored the No. 6 Raiders (18-5) in every quarter. Leading Central with 10 points was sophomore Lilly Phillips. Samantha Guertin compiled eight points, while Aniela Kwo collected seven points and seven rebounds.
Boys basketball
Pelham will attempt to win its second consecutive NHIAA Division 2 championship Sunday (1 p.m.).
The top-seeded Pythons, winners of 15 straight, will meet No. 2 Hanover, winners of 18 in a row, at the University of New Hampshire’s Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Pythons defeated Sanborn, 68-49, and Coe-brown, 59-56, in overtime, to advance to the title game. Pelham nearly posted an undefeated regular season in New Hampshire play. Its only blemish was a one-point (55-54) loss at Pembroke on Jan. 5.
Pelham and Hanover did not meet during the regular season. Leading Pelham this season have been Zach James and Dom Herrling. James and Herrling both reached 1,000 career points earlier this season. Scoring against Hanover won’t be easy. The Marauders have consistently held opponents to low point totals.
College lacrosse
Junior Matt Miner (Chelmsford) posted a game-high five points and senior Crosby Fay (Waterville Valley, N.H.) scored four goals as Plymouth State University overpowered Plattsburgh State University, 15-2, in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game in Plymouth, N.H.
Elsewhere, the Endicott men’s lacrosse team defeated Springfield, 15-7, in Beverly. Manny Marshall (Chelmsford) netted one goal for the Gulls.
