The Five Minute
Lowell General Hospital benefit
Lowell General Hospital’s Ball and Silent Auction held on Saturday, March 9 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston raised almost $36,000 for the hospital’s Community Health Initiatives.
Remedium Pharmacy, a major sponsor and committee member, helped to organize the auction items. The full-service North Chelmsford pharmacy specializes in compounding medicine. Other event sponsors included Commonwealth Radiology Associates, Eastern Salt Company, Enterprise Bank, Merrimack Valley Emergency Associates, Shields Health Care Group and the Demoulas Foundation.
Greater Lowell Health Alliance was chosen as this year’s Fund a Need recipient because of its work to address health inequities and improve access to behavioral health resources and education, issues identified as two of the region’s most pressing public health concerns in the region’s 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment.
GLHA’S Navigate program will directly fund community health fairs providing onsite care and health screening, as well as learning conferences and collaboratives to educate and strengthen the local behavioral health workforce.
“Greater Lowell Health Alliance plays a pivotal role bringing together organizations and agencies throughout our community, and we could not be prouder to support their work,” Tufts Medicine Lowell General President Amy Hoey said. “Navigate will help amplify those efforts, bringing behavioral health resources and education directly to those who need them most.”

School budget presentation
TOWNSEND — North Middlesex Regional School District Superintendent Brad Morgan invites members of the community to attend a public presentation regarding development of the 2024-2025 school budget on Thursday, March 28, from
10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Townsend Council on Aging, 16 Dudley Road.
Morgan and administrators will explain how they develop each year’s school budget in alignment with the core values of meeting the educational, social and emotional needs of all students. The School Committee has adopted its fiscal 2025 budget, representing a 6.27% increase over fiscal 2024. Without this increase, NMRSD projects $3 million in budget cuts, which could result in eliminating 30-32 staff positions, K-8 class sizes rising from 27 to 32 students, and eliminating all after-school programming such as athletics, band and clubs.
All residents are welcome. For more information, call 978-597-8713 or email info@nmrsd.org.
