Beauchesne saves game for Huskies
In another close midweek game, the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Uconn Huskies, 7-6, during college baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark in Storrs, Conn.
Chelmsford native Jack Beauchesne played a major role in the victory for the powerful Huskies (186).
With Uconn threatening with a two-out two-rbi double down the left field line to cut the lead to one run, Beauchesne was called in from the bullpen and got the final out to earn his second save of the season.
He slammed the door for Northeastern’s seventh straight midweek win, needing five pitches to earn the final out. Beauchesne, a junior right-hander, has enjoyed a terrific spring. He’s 2-0 with a miniscule 0.79 earned run average. In 11.1 innings, he’s struck out 12 batters.
The Huskies, coached by Billerica native Mike Glavine, are one of the top programs in New England.
The 6-2, 185-pound Beauchesne starred at Chelmsford High and Milton Academy before enrolling at Northeastern. His father, Eric Beauchesne, has long been one of the area’s top runners. Eric Beauchesne ran track and cross country at Providence College.
Also on NU’S team is Tyngsboro native Luke Beckstein, a senior infielder and Groton School graduate.
