Centralville sewer separation public meeting
LOWELL — Learn about the sewer separation project for the Centralville neighborhood during the Centralville Neighborhood Action Group meeting on Monday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m., 100 Coburn St.
Officials from the city of Lowell and the Lowell Regional Wastewater Utility will present a public review of the project that was mandated by a consent decree negotiated between the city and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project is anticipated to resolve recurrent issues with street flooding and sewage backups in area homes after high rainfall.
The $200 million construction project is slated to start around 2025 and run through 2031. The work will disrupt many streets in the neighborhood. Early draft plans call for installing a mainline drain underneath Willard, Billings, Barker, Ludlam and Hildreth streets and Bunker Hill Avenue. The draft plans also call for installing sideline drains underneath multiple streets in the northern section of Christian Hill and streets west of Bridge Street.
