Clark fuels Littleton to victory
Nets 6 goals as Tigers capture season opener
Matt Clark didn’t waste any time springing into the boys lacrosse season.
Clark tallied six goals and dished out two assists to power Littleton High to a dominant 13-1 win over Assabet Valley on Friday afternoon in the season opener.
Another offensive catalyst was Jake Taglieri, who tallied two goals and earned three assists. Zach Milner contributed a goal and two assists, while also scoring goals for the Tigers were Ryan Johnson, Tanner Neufell, Liam Parkinson and Logan Grant.
Greg Carroll made seven saves for the winners.
WHITTIER 11, TEWKSBURY 8 >> Tewksbury kept surging, but the Redmen couldn’t overcome a 5-1 deficit after one quarter during a season-opening battle in Haverhill.
Whittier led 10-5 after three quarters and Tewksbury made a run which came up short. Tyler Barnes led the offense with a three-goal effort, while Sean Callahan found the back of the net twice.
Girls lacrosse
CAMBRIDGE 11, LOWELL 4 >> The Red Raiders dropped the nonleague season-opener despite a three-goal performance from Jackie Peirce, who also earned an assist.
Alena Im tallied the other goal. Lowell allowed only two second-half goals thanks to inspired play by Lola Haley, Keanalee Fuentes, Princess Onyenwe and Alanna Cohen.
WESTFORD 18, NASHOBA REG. 10 >> The Ghosts earned an impressive season-opening win in Westford over Nashoba Regional, annually a strong Central Mass. program.
Kassidy Carmichael dominated the draw the entire game for Westford. Offensively, she registered seven goals and six assists, while Kily Carmichael and Olivia Cipriano were also impressive with five goals and two as
sists each. Erin Keefe also scored.
Molly Harding played tough on defense with two interceptions, while Ava Preysnar made eight saves in her first time in goal. NASHOBA 13, TRI-COUNTY 3 >> Senior captain Cassidy Bilawchuk had a huge game with four goals and two assists to fuel the Vikings to the season-opening win in Westford.
Maddie Darlington netted three goals, while Delaney Auger (3 assists) and Alanna Alden had two goals each. Chipping in a goal each were Samantha Richards and Paige Duby. Amber King made 11 saves in goal and dished out two assists. Alex Butters and Grace Cavalgno played excellent defense.
Boys volleyball
AYER SHIRLEY 3, WHITTIER 1
Two matches in two days and two victories, as Ayer Shirley (2-0) rolled past Whittier Tech, 25-15, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18 in Ayer.
Junior outside hitter Miles Pyatt spoiled Whittier’s season opener with kills, while senior right side and setter Sohil Patel was superb with eight kills, three aces and nine assists.
Youth football
Matthew Judon’s Youth Football Camp will be held next month in Tyngsboro.
The New England Patriots star linebacker/defensive end will stage the camp at the Bicentennial Field Complex on Saturday, May 25. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and boys and girls ages 6-16 can sign up.
Athletes who sign up will receive instruction, a camp team photo with Judon, a limited edition camp T-shirt and items from event sponsors. Judon is one of the top pass rushers in the National Football League.
College baseball
Billerica native Mike Glavine is now the second-winningest coach in Northeastern University program history.
Glavine led the Huskies to a 19-9 win over Monmouth
in Brookline. It was the 289th career win at NU for Glavine, allowing him to pass John Connelly and move into second place.
College softball
In Smithfield, R.I., senior Elizabeth Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) launched a game-tying home run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings, but Umass Lowell fell 5-4 at Bryant in the America East Conference opener Friday afternoon.
Frederick went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for UML (5-16). Junior Trinadey
Santiago (Cheshire, Conn.) had two RBI, while senior Lea White (Meriden, Conn.) chipped in with two hits, including a double. Senior Morgan Fisher (Glassboro, N.J) and freshman Isabel Quintanilla (Puyallup, Wash.) recorded a hit and a run.
