Lowell baseball team defeats Concord-carlisle in slugfest

For the second year in a row, the Westford Academy-andover boys tennis match came down to No. 3 singles.

On Tuesday, Preet Mood lifted the Ghosts to a narrow victory over their Merrimack Valley Conference opponent thanks to a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 victory in Westford.

Connor Liona dominated at No. 1 singles for WA, while Saunak Manna was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles.

LITTLETON 5, G-D 0 >> Littleton defeated Groton-dunstable as singles players Sam Little (6-3, 5-7, 10-7), Areen Panda (3-6, 6-0, 104) and Evan Mckay (6-0, 6-4) led the way.

Littleton completed the sweep thanks the doubles teams of Jackson Little (6-1, 7-5) and Manthan Acharya (6-0, 6-3). LOWELL 3, LAWRENCE 2 >> The doubles teams of Dhruv Patel/tawtaw Lay (6-1, 6-1) and Finn Gilday/kelvin Veras (6-3,

Vaal Thawnghmun­g was a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 winner at No. 3 singles.

CENTRAL 3, NO. ANDOVER 2 >> Central captured the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches behind the play of Arnav Lele (6-1, 6-1) and Jack Makiej (6-4, 6-1) en route to the MVC victory. At No. 1 doubles, the team of James Diamantis/ryan Melesky was a 6-2, 6-2 winner.

KEENE 7, BG 2 >> Bishop Guertin was defeated despite a win at No. 6 singles from Max Lizotte (8-4) and a victory at No. 2 doubles from the team of Evan Deyak/jaime Gomes Herrera (80).

Baseball

LOWELL 12, CONCORD-CARLISLE 7

Jake Descheneau scattered six hits and struck out four to earn the win in Lowell’s non-league victory.

Kelvin Perez tossed two scoreless innings with three K’s. Evan Rivera ripped a double, while Alex Wyman (RBI) and Cam Durkin also had hits.

LOWELL CATHOLIC 12, NORTHEAST 2 >> Shawn Hines earned the win, striking out five in three scoreless innings to lead the Crusaders.

Zach Gosselin ripped a triple, while Danny Parent, Bren

dan Owens and Kellin Tesini all clubbed doubles. SHAWSHEEN 6, ESSEX 0

Shawsheen received great pitching from sophomore right-hander Will Trach, who tossed a complete-game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Catcher Robbie Welch called a great game. Offensivel­y for the Rams (2-1), Will Holloway clubbed two doubles and had three RBI, Dyllon Pratt doubled and tripled and drove in two, and Nata Galanis claimed two hits and an RBI.

G-D 16, FITCHBURG 0 >> Alex Kelly tossed five hitless innings while striking out 12 to lift Groton-dunstable to the Mid-wach win.

Offensivel­y, Andrew Raymond went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Niko Mastakoura­s went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Liam Richard and Johnny Bordes both went 2-for-3 as part of a 12hit attack.

NM 5, TYNGSBORO 2 >> Tyngsboro scored two runs in the first but then were blanked the following six innings by North Middlesex.

Mike Reardon and Liam Bindoo each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the winners. The winning pitcher was Ryan Arsenault.

For Tyngsboro, Ryan Manning scored Ryan Wall on an RBI groundout and then Tim Guilmette’s single plated Andrew Duarte. Ryan Wall threw five innings for the Tigers, allowing one earned run and striking out four.

WOBURN 6, BILLERICA 5 >> The Indians were nipped in the non-league clash despite a fantastic performanc­e from freshman third baseman Ryan Nelson, who went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.

Softball

METHUEN 10, LC 0 >>

Lowell

Catholic played at Methuen and was defeated by the Merrimack Valley Conference member. Methuen pitcher Mackenzie Yirrell tossed a one-hitter and fanned 11.

GR. LOWELL 8, NORTHEAST 4 >> Amaya Flood dominated on the mound with 10 strikeouts. Freshman Morgan Haskell took over in the fourth and had seven strikeouts.

Offensivel­y, Cora Wilder had two doubles and three RBI, Morgan Haskell doubled and Flood tripled for the Gryphons (3-0, 2-0 CAC).

Boys volleyball

WAYLAND 3, WESTFORD 0 >> The Ghosts were defeated in Dual County League action in Wayland, 25-23, 2514, 25-17.

Girls tennis

QUABBIN 5, TYNGSBORO 0

Playing well in the Midwach loss were No. 2 singles player Caitlin Hilterman, who fell 6-3, 6-2, and No. 3 Stephanie Tyros, who lost 6-2, 6-2.

ANDOVER 5, TEWKSBURY 0 >> The Redmen weren’t able to upset perennial Merrimack Valley Conference power Andover.

METHUEN 5, LOWELL 0 >> The Red Raiders (2-1, 1-1) dropped their first match of the spring to their MVC rival.

Giving Methuen a battle at No. 1 doubles was the team of Sophia Gikas/ Natalie Sandler, who were bested 6-3, 6-0.

NDA 3, HAVERHILL 2 >> The Academy of Notre Dame swept the doubles matches to pull out the MVC win. The teams of Libby Johnson/phey Meh (6-3, 1-6, 6-1) and Keelan Peterson/carson Pedreschi (6-2, 6-1) led the way.

At No. 1 singles, the Lancers received a 6-1, 6-1 win from Artis Craven.

Boys track

AYER SHIRLEY 102.5, TAHANTO

28.5 >> Arthur Ribeiro won the long jump (19-11), triple jump (38-0) and 400 meters (50.8) to lead the winning Panthers.

Danae Arnold won the 100 (11.7) and anchored the winning 4×100 relay team.

Girls track

AYER SHIRLEY 98, TAHANTO 38 >> For the victorious Panthers, J’aliyah Mayes tied for first in the triple jump (34-3) nd Emily Churchill won the 400 (62.3).

Boys lacrosse

TYNGSBORO 11, LITTLETON 8 >> Tyngsboro took a 10-2 lead into the fourth quarter and barely held on for the win.

Luke Teta notched four goals and one assist, while Jake O’brien was immense with three goals and two assists for Tyngsboro.

Brett Anderson claimed two goals, while Jack Michaud

and Joey Salerno scored once each. Sean Mullin dished out three assists.

For Littleton, Ryan Johnson and Liam Smith (assist) tallied three goals each. Zach Milner added two goals and two assists. Also scoring goals were Andrew Archer and Liam Parkinson, while Jake Taglieri dished out three assists. ALVIRNE 12, GOFFSTOWN 8 >> Jon Santana led the Broncos with six goals and three assists, while Ryan Tobin tallied three times and dished out four assists in teh win.

Cedrik Beaulieu added two goals and two assists. Ayden Kelly made 16 saves in net. Ryan Hurrell played hard all game at faceoff and Jackson Hurrell earned six ground balls.

Girls lacrosse

TYNGSBORO 17, NM 6 >> Bella Adams collected five goals and an assist to spark the

Tigers to the Mid-wach win.

Other offensive stars were Lillian Gikas (4 goals, assist), Katie Guilmette (3 goals, assist) and Grace Angelo (2 goals). Claire Shambley made 12 saves in net. Defensive stars were Ava Lanzillo, Grace Mauti, Rachael Savoie and Katelyn Fugazzoto.

G-D 11, OAKMONT 8 >> Led by Jenna Koch’s six goals, Groton-dunstable captured the Mid-wach win. Hannah Stark provided four goals.

Also shining were Iris Stubblefie­ld with a goal and assist and Carley Ehwa with an assist and six draw controls.

METHUEN 15, LOWELL 3 >> Jackie Peirce led the Red Raiders with a goal and assist in the MVC defeat. Also netting goals for LHS were Mia Simuang and Alita Gulizia.

CHELMSFORD 10, BILLERICA 5 >> The Lions doubled up their MVC rival to defeat Billerica.

Taija Bell guided the Lions (2-0) with four goals and five draw controls. Catherine Craig dominated with three goals and four draw controls. Also starring were Katherine Morin (goal, assist), Anna Bierwirth (goal, 3 draw controls), Caroline Pitts (goal) and Mckenna Hughes (2 assists).

Chelmsford led 5-3 at halftime. For Billerica, Audrey Toce and Grace Leyne each had two goals, Sara Macleod scored once and Giovanna Gulinello earned an assist. Samantha White made 11 saves for Billerica (1-2).

TEWKSBURY 14, SHAWSHEEN 3 >> The victorious Redmen romped to the non-league win thanks to three-goal performanc­es from Ava Nordbruch, Paige Crowley
