League of Women Voters hosts Civic Social

-

WESTFORD — The League of Women Voters of Westford holds its monthly Civic Social on Wednesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., at the Westford Museum, 2 Boston Road.

April’s Civic Social gives residents an opportunity to talk with Town Moderator Angela Harkness and Town Clerk Laurie Shaw prior to Town Meeting on Saturday, April 27.

Residents may ask questions on issues such as voter accessibility, meeting logistics, procedures and other concerns. Town Meeting will now be held on the Westford Academy Trustees Field, 30 Patten Road, at 9 a.m. The rain date is Sunday, April 28, at the same time.

Civic Socials are the League’s informal monthly get-togethers, open to everyone, where people can learn what’s happening in and around town and about what the League is doing. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, issues-oriented organization — open to all — that encourages informed and active participation in government. The League does not support or oppose any candidate or political party. For more information about the League, go to lwv.westford.org.

19th Lowell Take Back the Night event

LOWELL — Take Back the Night is a community event held every year during April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month to raise awareness of sexual violence and to support survivors in the community.

Lowell’s event, organized by the Center for Hope and Healing, takes place Thursday, April 18, and starts with a 5 p.m. rally featuring activist speakers at City Hall, 375 Merrimack St. At 6:30 p.m., the march will head up Merrimack Street through the community to Umass Lowell’s University Crossing at 220 Pawtucket St.

Participants are encouraged to bring signs, posters in different languages, drums, and pots and pans to make noise advocating to make the streets of Lowell safe for all.

At Umass Lowell, there will be refreshments, resource tables and a survivor speakout. This will be a supportive space for survivors to tell their stories and Center for Hope and Healing counselors will be on site for support.
