Bell’s OT goal lifts the Lions

Working a little overtime paid off in a big way for Taija Bell.

Bell tallied the OT game-winner to lift the Chelmsford High girls lacrosse team to a thrilling 10-9 win over Merrimack Valley Conference rival Andover on Thursday.

Bell had an outstandin­g game with three goals, two assists and six draw controls. Scoring three goals each for the undefeated Lions (3-0, 2-0 MVC) were Catherine Craig (2 assists) and Julianna Lanzillo.

Ava Balan added a goal and six caused turnovers, Reese Hughes played great defense and Eloise Sosnowski made nine saves.

NA 16, BILLERICA 6 >> Despite a three-goal effort from Sara Macleod, the Indians fell to North Andover in MVC action.

Giovanna Gulinello, Keera Conley and Grace Leyne netted a goal each. Samantha White made 10 saves for Billerica (1-3, 0-2 MVC). ST 13, LOWELL CATHOLIC 5 >> Judith Sloman and Riley Rourke each netted four goals to power the Shawsheen Tech win.

Fiona Rexford scored twice, while Adriana Kepple, Cera Salter and Natalia Portillo-pitta all scored once. Portillo-pitta and Alexis Fox played great defense for the Rams.

GLT 18, WHITTIER 4 >> Emma Finch dominated with six goals to power Greater Lowell Tech to the CAC win.

Other offensive stars were Tyra Medina with four goals, Nayara Burato with three goals an assist, and Addison Carbone with two goals and two assists. Also netting goals were Audrey Yann, Aliyah Coutu and Julia Canario, while Hayllie Oliveira dished out two assists for the Gryphons (1-1). WESTFORD 17, WAYLAND 11 >> The host Ghosts had plenty of offense to capture the Dual County League win.

Kassidy Carmichael starred on all ends of the field, scoring 11 goals, adding two assists and

having 80 percent draw control. Kiley Carmichael had two goals one assist, Emma Chapman had two goals, while Olivia Cipriano added a goal and assist. Avery Votano scored a goal. Ava Preysnar made six saves.

Boys lacrosse

TYNGSBORO 14, HUDSON 2

Junior midfielder Jake O’brien netted three goals and three assists, while senior midfielder Jack Michaud registered two goals and four assists for the Tigers.

Joey Salerno added three

goals and an assist, Brett Anderson collected two goals and two assists, and freshmen Jackson Ducharme and Campbell Mclean also scored. Nicholas Palumbo stopped 10 of 12 shots. Defenseman Dillon Tirado and Reese Graham had great games.

Softball

SHEPHERD HILL 6, NM 5 >> North Middlesex’s bats came alive, but the Patriots were nipped in Townsend.

Hitting stars were Nataly Rebello (3-for-5, RBI) and Carolyn Brodeur (3for-5, double, RBI). Going 2-for-4 were Erin Adams and Caitlin O’brien (RBI). Bianca Lake also drove in a run. Rebello went the distance on the mound.

CENTRAL 13, DRACUT 0 >> The Middies were not to slow down MVC power Central Catholic, which prevailed in five innings thanks mainly to a 12-run second.

Amelia Ovalles and Ava Perrotta clubbed home runs for Central.

Baseball

AS 11, MURDOCK 0 >> James Gauntlet tossed the five-inning shutout to power Ayer Shirley to the Mid-wach victory. Offensivel­y, Tyler Crawford swung a hot bat as he clubbed three doubles.

Girls tennis

MAIMONIDES 4, LC 1 >> Lowell Catholic fell despite an 8-6 victory from Julia Vasconcelo­s at No. 3 singles. WILMINGTON 4, WATERTOWN

1 >> The doubles teams of Sophia Lavita/maddie Benoit (6-4, 6-3) and Marian Cummings/alison D’arco (6-1, 6-4) won to lead the Wildcats to victory.

Capturing singles matches were Savannah Beatrice (6-3, 6-0) at No. 1 and Shubhangi Tripathi (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3.

Boys track

LITTLETON 90, TYNGSBORO 54 >> Littleton won the battle of Tigers at Innovation Academy. For Tyngsboro, Christian Riley won three events — the 110 hurdles (16.5), the long jump (19-8) and triple jump (40-11).

Alex Panneton captured the 400 hurdles (1:00.9) and the javelin (109-11), while Troy Gregoire claimed the mile in 5:07.4 for Tyngsboro. LOWELL 107, METHUEN 34 >> Leading the Red Raiders to the MVC win were double winners Nana Opoku, Khai Yin and Samuel Ansah.

Opoku captured the long jump (20-6) and triple jump (39-9). Yin won the 110 high hurdles (14.8) and 400 hurdles (62.5). Ansah claimed the 100 (11.1) and 400 (53.5).

Leary in the pole vault (7-6), Ethan Thevenin in the high jump (5-8), Stevens Antoine in the shot put (46-6), Emanuel Trinidad in the discus (133-8), Jack Courtney in the two mile (10:07.8), Victor Duong in the mile (4:49.3) and Jayden Ferreras in the 800 (2:17.0). The 4×400 relay team of Anthony Sen, Juanito Delacruz, Joel Njenga and Toskany Padilla won in 3:49.0. NASHOBA TECH SWEEPS >> The Vikings defeated the Academy of Notre Dame, 85-51, and Lowell Catholic/ Collegiate Charter, 84-52, during a meet in Wednesday. Nashoba is now 2-0, 1-0 in the CAC.

A-S 115.5, MAYNARD 21.5 >> Jake Leone, Jacob Teo and Mathias Paillard fueled Ayer-shirley to the easy win.

Leone won the two mile (10:14) and the 800. Teo captured the 200 in 23.5 and Paillard claimed the discus with a throw of 123 feet for the Panthers (2-0).

Girls track

LITTLETON 118, TYNGSBORO 27 >> Despite victories from Brylee Betty in

the 400 (1:07.6) and Mia Puopolo in the triple jump (28-4), Tyngsboro was overwhelme­d by a strong Littleton squad.

CAC ACTION >> The Academy of Notre Dame downed Nashoba Tech, 93-38, but Nashoba (1-1, 0-1 CAC) topped Lowell Catholic/collegiate Charter, 54-33, in a meet in Westford.

A-S 84, MAYNARD 52 Ayer-shirley soared behind Ava Murphy, Sastea Cherduvill­e and Isabel Bresnahan.

Murphy and Cherduvill­e tied for first in the long jump at 16-1 and Cherduvill­e finished first in the 100. Bresnahan won the 400 hurdles in 68.9.

Boys volleyball

A-S 3, NASHOBA REG. 1 >> Ayer-shirley rolled to a tough 25-22, 22-25, 2520, 26-24 road victory in Bolton.

Senior setter and right side hitter David Batchelor compiled 12 kills and 18 assists for the Panthers (34, 1-3 Mid-wach B) and senior outside hitter Harrison Tu contribute­d five kills and one ace.
