Billerica rallies to defeat rival Lions in MVC baseball clash

Catherine Craig was on cloud nine after her performanc­e Tuesday.

Craig dominated offensivel­y with a career-high nine goals, one assist and five draw controls to power the Chelmsford High girls lacrosse team to a 2212 non-league victory over Wachusett Regional.

Katherine Morin (4 goals, assist) and Julianna Lanzillo (3 goals, 3 assists) also had huge afternoons (4-1). Contributi­ng to the win were Caroline Pitts (2 goals, 6 draw controls), Ava Balan (goal, 3 assists), Taija Bell (goal, assist) and Reese Hughes (5 draws, goal) and Alyson Roark (goal).

BILLERICA 9, BURLINGTON 4 » The Indians captured the non-league victory after increasing their lead after a 6-4 edge at halftime.

Samantha White made 13 saves for Billerica (2-3). Sophia Jannoni led the offense with two goals and three assists, while Cora Lankowski and Audrey Toce also had two goals. Collecting a goal each for the winners were Giovanna Gulinello, Sara Macleod and Cassie Gallagher. WOBURN 16, TEWKSBURY 5 » Ava Nordbruch found the back of the net twice, but Tewksbury dropped the non-league battle. Adding a goal each for the Redmen were Emily Picher, Mckenzie Hickey and Sarah Doherty. LOWELL 5, LOWELL CATHOLIC 3 » In a low-scoring non-league matchup, the Red Raiders received three goals from Jackie Peirce to post the win.

Scoring a goal each for Lowell were Quinn Mcdonald and Alita Gulizia. Strong defense was played by Erin Asselin, Bella Goncalves, Princess Onyenwe and Alanna Cohen. Sara Skaff made seven saves.

North Middlesex received a terrific performanc­e from Bella

Young, who tallied a game-high seven goals. Scoring three goals for the Patriots (1-4) was Sophia Caldwell.

CENTRAL 16, WEYMOUTH 8 » Central Catholic remained undefeated as Kerri Finneran led the way with six goals and three draw controls.

Central (6-0) only led 7-6 at halftime before pulling away. Kierstyn Zinter was superb again with four goals and four draw controls. Jackie Tattan chipped in with three goals. Abby Yfantopulo­us (goal, 2 assists, 4 draw controls), Nicolette Licare (2 goals, assist) and goalie Anne Cashman (9 saves) also starred.

Paige Matte swung a hot bat, finishing with seven RBI. The Gryphons (4-0) scored 16 runs in the top of the third. Matte hit a grand slam, Cora Wilder homered to left field to score two runs and Flood added a solo home run. Wilder added a solo home run.
