Groton-dunstable nips Tyngsboro in thriller

In a spirited Mid-wach girls lacrosse battle in Tyngsboro, Groton-dunstable nipped the Tigers, 11-10.

Leading the offense for the winners were Jenna Koch and Annabelle Shreve. Koch tallied four goals and one assist, while Shreve netted three goals and two assists. Hannah Stark scored twice for Groton-dunstable (6-2).

For Tyngsboro (2-5), Bella Adams continued her torrid scoring with six goals. Kayla Freelove responded with a hat trick.

ST 9, NASHOBA TECH 7 » After Nashoba jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, Shawsheen tallied three fourth-quarter goals to win at home in a tough battle.

Fiona Rexford led the winners with three goals, while Judith Sloman and Izzy Ferguson both scored twice. Chipping in a goal each were Natalia Pitta and Riley Rourke. Valentina Mosquera and Maya Noyes played excellent defense in front of Mia Vacha, who made six saves.

Nashoba (6-2) was led by goalie Amber King, who made 14 saves. Delaney Auger recorded a hat trick, while Paige Duby (2 goals assist), Cassidy Bilawchuk (1, 2 assists) and Samantha Richards (goal) had strong games.

WESTBORO 17, NM 4 » During a Mid-wach game in Westboro, visiting North Middlesex fell despite receiving a pair of goals from Meredith Southard Pantano. CENTRAL 20, BILLERICA 2 » The Indians were overpowere­d by a talented Central Catholic team in MVC action.

Grace Leyne scored both of Billerica’s goals, while Kendra Marino dished out one assist, and Samantha White and Devynn Watford each made four saves for the Indians (2-7).

Despite a clutch

9 » five-goal, one-assist performanc­e from Taija Bell, the Lions were nipped in MVC play. Catherine Craig added three goals, while Caroline Pitts chipped in a goal and assist.

HAVERHILL 10, LOWELL 2 » Despite two goals from Jackie Peirce, the Red Raiders fell in MVC play. Strong defense was received from Bella Goncalves, Princess Onyenwe, Erin Asselin and Alanna Cohen. Sara Skaff made 14 saves.

Boys tennis

CENTRAL 4, CHELMSFORD 1 » Despite a victory at No. 3 singles from Om Angadi (62, 6-0), the Lions (1-2) were defeated in MVC action.

Singles winners for Central were Arnav Lele at No. 1 (6-3, 6-4) and Jack Makiej at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1). The Raiders swept the doubles matches behind the teams of James Diamantis/ryan Melesky (6-1, 6-1) and Alex Colombosia­n/owen Bergeron (64, 6-4).

Girls tennis

CENTRAL 5, BILLERICA 0 » The Indians couldn’t slow down a strong Central Catholic squad in MVC action.

Singles winners for Central were Kayleigh Furbush (6-0, 6-0), Meg Washburn (6-1, 6-0) and Kaya Asmar (6-0, 6-0). Doubles wins were earned by Ella Gregoria/morgan Bateman (60, 6-1) and Alessandra Sacchetti/melina Panagiotak­opoulos (6-1, 6-0). CHELMSFORD 4, NDA 1 » The Lions captured two singles matches and both doubles matches to defeat the Academy of Notre Dame in MVC action.

TYNGSBORO 4, LITTLETON 1 » Tyngsboro received singles wins from Kayla Moro (6-2 4-6, 6-4) and Caitlin Hilterman (5-7, 6-4, 6-1) in the victory. Doubles wins were earned by the teams of Lila Kilmon/stephanie Tyros (6-4, 6-4) and Zola Pularo Spazioso/amelia Johnson (6-2, 6-3).

Boys lacrosse

LITTLETON 14, SHEPHERD HILL 5 » The Tigers received strong offensive games from attack Ryan Johnson and midfielder Ryan Pittorino in the Mid-wach win.

Johnson compiled four goals and an assist, while Pittorino claimed three goals and two assists. Scoring two goals apiece for Littleton were Liam Smith, who added an assist, Zach Milner and Tanner Neufell. NA 13, CHELMSFORD 4 » Home field advantage wasn’t enough as the Lions fell to MVC rival North Andover at Simonian Stadium in Chelmsford.

AMAS 7, NORTH MIDDLESEX 5 » The Patriots nearly picked up their second win of the spring, but ultimately fell to Advanced Math and Science. North Middlesex fell to 1-6. BILLERICA 13, CENTRAL 8 » The Indians pulled out a hard-fought MVC victory.

For Central, Ethan Bencze, Cam Brosnihan and Mason Bachry all scored two goals. Joe Buchanan won 16 of 25 faceoffs and Jake Lydon made 14 saves. TYNGSBORO 16, LUNENBURG 4 » Junior Luke Teta provided five goals and one assist to fuel the Tigers to victory.

Jake O’brien was immense with three goals, two assists and 14 faceoff wins. Jack Michaud claimed two goals and one assist, while Joey Salerno and Brett Anderson each netted three goals. Nicholas Palumbo made nine saves.

Boys volleyball

LEOMINSTER 3, AS 0 » Ayer Shirley fell 25-16, 25-16, 25-17 during a Mid-wach match. The Panthers (3-6, Mid-wach B 1-5) received three aces, four kills and two assists from senior setter and right side hitter David Batchelor.

Sophomore outside hitter Lukas Biddle had three kills and one ace.

CENTRAL 3, DRACUT 1 » In a MVC encounter, Central Catholic topped the Middies after a slow start, 2931, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20.

Central (5-6) received 18 kills and three blocks from Deryl Atem. Michael Nguyen supplied 34 assists and one ace, Jaithian Medina earned 24 digs and Owen Fulks added 30 service points.

Baseball

NORTH ANDOVER 5, CENTRAL

The Raiders held a 9-3 hit advantage in the loss. Offensivel­y, first baseman Jack Savio went 3-for-3 with two RBI, third baseman Shane Donnelly went 3-for-4 and catcher Brady Rickenbach went 2-for-3. LITTLETON 4, NM 3 » Denis Ryzi ripped a hit in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Tigers to the upset Mid-wach victory in Littleton. The Tigers scored three runs in the inning to stun the Patriots.

Ryzi finished 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for Littleton. He also pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Jack Redmond.

For North Middlesex, Cam Haley was superb, tossing 6.1 innings, striking out seven and only allowing one earned run. SHAWSHEEN 7, NORTHEAST 2 » The Rams pounded out 13 hits during the CAC win led by Brody Amenkowicz, who ripped three hits and drove in four runs.

Lukas Poirier set the table from the leadoff spot, collecting four hits and scoring three runs. Nate Galanis had two hits and scored a run for the Rams (7-2, 4-0 CAC), while Brendan Lee and Jake Carr both had a hit and run scored.

On the mound, Brendan Lee (4 innings) and Ryan Jamieson (3 innings) combined to strike out 10 and allow only four hits.

Softball

GLT 13, SHAWSHEEN 1 » In a CAC matchup, Greater Lowell Tech rolled behind the pitching of Amaya Flood, who struck out 13, allowed two hits and no walks over six innings.

Caoilinn and Chelsey Quealy led the offense with three hits each for the Gryphons (6-0, 3-0 CAC). CHELMSFORD 6, METHUEN 3 » The visiting Lions captured the MVC win as pitcher Allie Kenney earned the victory, striking out five, giving up two walks and allowing three runs, none of them earned.

Jenna Nigro and Maya Barry both collected two hits apiece for Chelmsford. Charlotte O’hare drove in two runs and was 1-for-3. NORTH ANDOVER 19, DRACUT 4 » The Middies strong hitting from center fielder Mckenzie Lussier and catcher Gabrielle Coffey in the MVC defeat.

Lussier went 2-for-3 and scored two runs and Coffey went 3-for-3 and crossed the plate twice.

Girls track

AS 104, TYNGSBORO 31 » Host Ayer Shirley romped past the Tigers as Chandra Eli-johnson captured the 200 in 27.4.

Jordan Kosakowski won the 400 in 62.2 and both placed in the triple jump for the Panthers (3-0).

Boys track

AS 79, TYNGSBORO 57 » Undefeated Ayer Shirley got past the Tigers thanks to a strong effort from Jacob Te.

Teo won the long jump with a jump of 20 feet, two inches, while Mathias Paillard captured the discus for the Panthers (3-0).
