MYR­TLE BEACH, SC Eu­gene Ed­ward Slota, son of the late Daniel and Lot­tie ( Kal­iszewski) Slota, passed away sud­denly at home in Myr­tle Beach, SC on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14, 2018. He was 82. He was pre­ceded in death by his broth­ers Daniel A. Slota and Richard Slota, sis­ter, Eleanor Slota Dis­brow, and neph­ews James D. Ren­deiro and Daniel J. Slota. Born in Trenton NJ, Gene grad­u­ated from Trenton Cen­tral High School. One of his early po­si­tions was as a ballroom dance in­struc­tor with Arthur Mur­ray Dance Stu­dio. He worked for DeLaval Tur­bine, Inc in Trenton, NJ for 28 years un­til his re­tire­ment. Gene proudly served in the NJ Air Na­tional Guard. He en­joyed shing, wood­work­ing and was an avid gar­dener. He resided in Myr­tle Beach, SC for the past 17 years. Gene loved an­i­mals and de­voted his re­tire­ment years help­ing to save over 3,000 cats in Myr­tle Beach. He vol­un­teered with Sav-R- Cats In­ter­na­tional, Inc, to en­sure that the cats were fed, neutered, vac­ci­nated and cared for when in­jured. Gene was rec­og­nized and re­ceived a Certi cate of Ap­pre­ci­a­tion from Sav R Cats In­ter­na­tional, Inc, in 2005. Gene is sur­vived by his brother, John C. Slota of NJ, sis­ters Char­lotte Ren­deiro of PA, Dorothy Jar­dine of NJ, Karen (Charles) Bi­ache of NJ, and Ch­eryl ( Wil­liam) Gane of PA, brother-in-law Wal­ter Dis­brow, Sr. of PA, and many nieces and neph­ews. Gene leaves be­hind his per­sonal pet cats cur­rently be­ing held for adop­tion at the Horry County An­i­mal Care Cen­ter in Con­way, SC. A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be cel­e­brated on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 8 at 11:00 am, St. Hed­wig Catholic Church, Trenton, NJ fol­lowed by a cel­e­bra­tion of Gene’s life for fam­ily and friends.
